Motorcycles. Always a great idea.

Dumb decision to ride a bike IMO, but I hope he gets well.

Re: LaVar Arrington In Motorcycle Accident

I feel so sorry for Lavar with his horrible luck for the past year or so. I think they are saying he will make a full recovery which is great news. Anyway as long as there is no permanent damage, I think this will be a good lesson learned for him and for the redskins community. STAY OFF OF THOSE FREAKIN BIKES PLEASE. We don't need to see one of our active players pull a Kellen Winslow before this becomes a "real" issue for us.

i sure hope that he's okay though. it doesn't sound life-threatening though so that's a good thing.

Re: LaVar Arrington In Motorcycle Accident

I don't feel bad for him personally because he didn't have the required liscense and thats just an idiotic thing to do. But on a human level I hope the guy is alright and it look slike he probably will be. His NFL career is over. Anyone want an Arrington jersey? I have 3: the probowl one, the burgundy, or the white.

Re: LaVar Arrington In Motorcycle Accident

Wow, talk about the way his life has changed over the past three years. One year he is one of the most feard D players in the NFL on top of the world. Couple years latter he is fighting for his life.I hope he can get back to 100% and spend time with those new children. While talking bikes. If you single and have no dependents then do as you please. If your married and have children its time to step back from those type of things.

Man, I sure hope he is ok and prayers will definately be sent along the way.

I don't agree with your motorcycle comment. However, this isn't the place to have that discussion.

Then where would be the appropriate place? I do believe the title of the thread contains the words "motorcycle accident" in it. So I think bike safety discussion would be right at home here in this thread.

In the context of an athlete who must depend on his physical well being in order to make a living, doing ANYTHING that could jeapordize that well being is dumb, including riding a motorcycle.

In the context of the general public no, the bike wasn't the dumb idea...not learning how to ride properly, not wearing appropriate protective gear, and not geting licensed (and hence insured) were the dumb ideas. Riding a bike is not like driving a car, you really need to take the time to learn how to handle the bike safely in all conditions. That means formalized training and discipline to ride within your limits.

As a long time rider I cringe when I hear people make blanket statements about riding motorcycles as stupid. Not learning how to ride safely and riding too fast for conditions are the problem, not the bike itself. The same would apply to drivers who roll their SUV's at 100mph without a seatbelt...the problem was the decisions made by the driver, not the vehicle itself.

Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now.

Re: LaVar Arrington In Motorcycle Accident

I knew this incident would draw a lot of feelings from skins fans, he's still one of the most controversial players ever; a fan favorite who eventually divided fans on their opinion of him.

I loved Lavar when he was in b&g & I always hoped for a chance that he & Snyder could patch things up & at the least he could retire a skin. This is of course bigger than that, and like all have said, I hope & pray he's alright.

It's been a tough few years for him, but at the same time he's brought some of his problems on himself. That's nothing unusual, we all do plenty of that. I think he'll come out of this a very humbled man, he's smart enough to learn from it & move on from football.

I hope the Skins reach out to him in some capacity. What do you think his reaction would be if the danny offerred to cover all medical bills?

Re: LaVar Arrington In Motorcycle Accident

Fox sports.com said it was bad but not life threatening. I sure hope he will recover quickly. I always liked Lavar, even at Penn State. I just hope he doesn't suffer some sort of permanent damage.

Re: LaVar Arrington In Motorcycle Accident

Of course as a human I wish him a quick and full recovery. But the guy is a total idiot. Let's recap:

1) He is trying to rehab a ruptured achilles so he can get back to football at some point.
2) He just had twin daughters, a huge responsibility
3) He is in good health with plenty of financial freedom
4) He has a wife to look after as well
5) He doesn't have a motorcycle license

Ohh, ohh, I know, lets go get on a crotch rocket and tear ass up and down route 50 and risk pissing away a blessed life, orphan two newborns and widow a young wife. What a dumb SOB.

Well it's pretty simple, car accidents and car FATALATIES far outway motorcycle accidents that involve the same PERIOD

Most but, NOT ALL of the time you have some fool on a rice rocket that thinks the highway is a racetrack, which is more times than not your leading cause for motorcycle accidents. Operator error.

I've been riding on the highways on my many different Harleys throught the last 25+ years, I had more problems when I was younger and not very road smart, lack of experience.

Knock on wood, I ride my newest Harley almost daily and it's been over 20 years since any incident, but of course you have to be more alert, with all the TARDS on the road...cell phones, eating dinner, running lights, basically trying to live and run there office from a moving car. These are the Smart riders worst enemies...which includes ALMOST EVERYONE!

Hope all turns out well for Lavar, our thoughts and prayers our with him and the family.

GMScud:

With that last post, you have qualified to take over my role here on the board whenever I'm absent.

I too hope he recovers from a human standpoint. But that was a truly stupid set of decisions for him to make that put him in this situation...

Re: LaVar Arrington In Motorcycle Accident

We've had these debates before... I think more than anything we should just focus on LaVar's well being for now.
