Re: simeon rice

A lot of people don't have much faith in Daniels, but he played ok last year, he just wasn't healthy for much of it. He plays hard & is a better run stopper than Rice I bet.
Plus he's a team leader. I'm not ready to give up on him just yet, though I realize at 34 we can't expect too much.

Re: simeon rice

One thing we have come to know is that Snyder does know how to handle that salary cap.
I say sign him and sign him now.
He had 14 sacks in 05, 12.5 in 04, 14.5 in 03, 16 in 02.

He's only 33. He still has a couple good years left in the tank, and he would INSTANTLY be the best DE we have.
As long as he is fully recovered from last years injuries, I say go for it.
I don't think he'll be too expensive.

No! not a vet min moratorium!
We'd be like the Danny in 2000, all threads would say yeah, let's sign this guy, e.g. Rice, he's a former pro-bowler & he ate us alive a few years ago. We should pay him at least a 10mil bonus!

I don't know what I think of this, rice is kind of a self-absorbed ass & might not be too team oriented at this point of his career. Dude wants to get paid so he can keep getting manicures.

Though I loved Bruce Smith, who's a fellow Hokie, he came here to get paid & get his record. Rice would be much the same.
Of course if we sign him (vet min. of course) & he gets 5 sacks or so & good pressure, I'll get used to him.

Re: simeon rice

For once a player who I would gladly overpay to finish up his career here. Let him play 35% of the defensive snaps. He is still a better DE than anyone we have except for Carter. Who are the other DE's again????? Daniels, Wynn give me a break. Rice is better than both of those guys with his eyes closed.

I would love to sign him, but I can't see him signing for anything less than a crazy contract. He's very old, but pass rushers like him are a rare breed. I don't see it happening though.

In 2005 he did have 12 sacks, he might have something left in the tank.

Re: simeon rice

Let's sign him, but only for vet min.

My concern about the defensive line is young depth. I hope that Justin Hickman shows a lot and either makes the team or stays with us on the practice squad.

Simeon Rice is someone we don't need. Renaldo Wynn is healthy and ready to roll. M. Washington and A. Carter are at defensive end in passing situations. Montgomery might be a star in the making. Golston is looking great. Philip Daniels is healthy. We have other good players on the line.

Are you serious? Philip Daniels?, Renaldo Wynn?.They suck ass!!! Simeon Rice is better than both of them put together. When has wynn or daniels posted double digit sacks? We should sign Rice but not to a big contract.

I would love to see him in training camp and then when we play the Bucs he has 5 sacks. But for some reason I think the FO is too stubborn and has too much pride to sign him. "We said that out Dline is fine and we're going to stick by that statement" I hear GW saying that in a meeting this afternoon.

Re: simeon rice

Simeon Rice isn't signing for the veteran minimum. I doubt he will look for something crazy, but give the man some respect. He is... was.... and always will be a complete beast of a football player. Vet. minimum. Like it would be some kind of a generous offer or something.

He'd never sign for the vet minimum. He's not crazy. He turned down a multi-million dollar contract and will sign for big bucks somewhere else if not with us. He's still better than anyone we have on the DL (unless Griffin steps up) and all of our CB's but Springs.

Re: simeon rice

he needs to be signed. He would a great replacement for daniels. Daniels is over the hill as well but is no where near rice in terms of talent. This would be a great upgrade here.
