Who knows how this got so ugly, why does he feel "unappreciated?" There's always at least 2 sides to the story. Regardless, his talking to the press & trying to force the bengals hand makes me look at him like the girl who will cheat & leave her boyfriend to be w/you cause she's unhappy. So do you think that girl is going to be loyal to you? CJ is that girl. |

Re: Chad Johnson up to his old antics...
I don't like the 'they make millions' argument either. These guys make the bulk of their lifetime income in a short time span. After the NFL, aside from the few who can transition into something like broadcasting, film, coaching, or business, how many of them will be able to find a steady income. Are they really going to be able to get normal desk jobs? Playing football is the only thing a lot of these guys know, and they leave the game with their bodies ravaged. It's not easy to transition into a normal work environment. That's why so many of them do appearances and signings.

CJ I believe he is bad news we should stay away from him, yeah he's a good tall clutch receiver which we need but could unsettle the locker room more trouble than he's worth

I agree but why should the skins bother with him?

Re: Chad Johnson up to his old antics...
Maybe because he's one of the top 8 WR in the game and that's a huge area of need?
Regardless, Marvin Lewis was on NFL Net last night and once again reiterated that if Johnson plans on playing in the NFL this season it will be in Cincinnati and if he doesn't want to, then he can sit it out but there will be no trade.

Re: Chad Johnson up to his old antics...
Johnson does not lose anything by not attending voluntary workouts. Just what until the OTA's start up where money is concerned. If he has a workout bonus in his contract for mandatory OTA's, then he stands to lose coinage when he does not show up.
I'll bet you that when it starts costing him money, he will be there. Do you think he will be a camp holdout? Nope, he won't want to pay those fines. Mark my words, when money starts coming out of his pocket, he will show up. I am reminded of Lance Briggs last year at this time. He said "I'll never play another down as a Bear". Then when the OTA's were going to cost him money, he was the first one in the locker room to suit up for workouts. Was just talking to a friend about this last night. Johnson is screaming trade all day and every day. But we do not hear him scream about paying back his signing bonus or buying out his contract for the trade. If he really wants out of Cincy so badly, why does he not offer to pay back that money? He won't. By demanding a trade, he is essentially demanding the Bengals to absorb an 8 million dollar cap hit in dead money. If he wants out that much, why does he not offer to pay that back to Cincy? He needs to pony up and put up or shut up. Johnson likes to talk a big game, but when it comes down to it, he is not prepared to make the sacrifice to see it through. Until Johnson offers to pay back that money and/or buy out his contract, his trade demands have ZERO credibility. Why should the Bengals make all of the financial sacrifices when it is Johnson who wants out? |

But is marv only doing this because its the skins, if a player doesn't want to play for you is there any point keeping him around could unsettle the rest of the team.

Re: Chad Johnson up to his old antics...
Honestly, I just don't understand where the support for the comments come from that this is at all "typical" of Chad Johnson, or that he's up to the same "old antics"? When has anything like this ever happened before with CJ? His work ethic is unquestionable and I don't recall him ever holding out before (and this isn't even holding out.....it's not showing up for voluntary workouts). I'm the first guy to jump all over loudmouth crybabies in the NFL, but I don't see anything in CJ's history to indicate that this is typical behavior for him. He obviously has a beef with the team and his contract, but I don't recall that ever happening before. Just my opinion.

Re: Chad Johnson up to his old antics...
valid opinion, no you can't question his work ethic, maybe we all have a bad opinion on CJ maybe it's not him but the coaching staff Like Marv.

Re: Chad Johnson up to his old antics...
I also want to add that I hope all you people who are screaming about character issues are also agrueing against having Pacman here. I was looking at another site and saw the inconsistancies......but we need a CB and we can put the clauses in place...we don't need CJ. Please.

Re: Chad Johnson up to his old antics...
It's not really about him missing workouts...it's that he is missing workouts BECAUSE he is crying like a little baby that he wants out.
He needs to accept the fact that he is not going to be traded, and be a good "employee" for a change.
