Re: Rogers tendered-whines about it
People on this board are way too rough on 'los. I don't agree with what he's saying, of course the skins tendered you. That's how this business runs. You're going to get a decent contract, just play for it. Personally, I think we should extend him a reasonable contract now after a down year. Carlos plays great coverage sure, he got burned a few times. Find me a CB that doesn't. It's part of the game. His hands are bad, he drops picks. I wish he made them, but he's not a WR, if he's shutting down a receiver -- he's doing his job.
I'm curious what fan sentiment would be like on players from the 80s if they had ways to quickly contact millions of fans (Facebook, twitter, 24 hour media, etc etc). These guys are just reacting. No time to think about what they're saying. That doesn't make saying stupid things "right" -- but I understand how certain mentalities can go over the top sometimes. Also, those of you willing to take a 2nd round pick for a young and relatively talented corner. Think long and hard about who we have on this team to replace him. Smoot as a starter? Draft a complete gamble of a player in the 2nd round? People often over-value draft picks. I'm shocked at how many people are willing to toss away a proven commodity for a 2nd round crap shoot. Let's look at our 2nd rounders over the past 10 years. Rocky McIntosh, Taylor Jacobs, Ladell Betts, Fred Smoot. Not a terrible list, but not a great one.

and as you said he had a bad year, possibly due to the team not having an offense and when the team got down in points the defense would go into panic mode. There's no excaping the fact that he bit on double moves. Hopefully he can correct this over the summer. He plays better man-to-man bumping the WR at the line of scrimage. When he was put in zone he looked lost, got beat, and bit on double moves. So it depends on what style of scheme they will use more often... man-to-man or zone to determine how valueable he is to the Skins. Plus every player is going to complain about being tendered. Everyone wants their pay day. I think he over values his status with us. You asked who would we put in his place? I'd use Barnes. or go out and spend for Rolle from the Cards. Out of your 2nd round draft pick list I'd have expected more from Rocky and especially Betts who I think underperformed. I can't wait till everyone is supprised what Shanahan will be able to do with a 3rd or 4th rounder. Betts will be long forgotten. We won't talk about Jacobs, and Smoot has served his purpose. Knock him now but back when we first drafted him he did pretty good. |

Re: Rogers tendered-whines about it
The 1st round tender is just a starting point for negotiations correct? If offered a 2nd rd pick for Los I bet the FO takes it...

Re: Rogers tendered-whines about it
A 1st is the jump off point but a deal is negotionable. If he keeps stirring the pot the FO may be willing to accept a 2nd for him. With a deep draft like this one I'd take a 2nd for him just to get rid of his mouth.

Re: Rogers tendered-whines about it
He had his mind elsewhere because of 5 different kids with 5 different women in 5 different states (I think). I say if Rogers will be unhappy trade him and take a chance on Cromartie or a 2nd or 3rd round pick instead.

Re: Rogers tendered-whines about it
Cromartie can catch a football though, thats one huge difference and he got toasted only a few times, but that was because of what you said, his mind was somewhere else last year. Cromartie had like 10+ int's that year which he had the longest play in NFL history.

Re: Rogers tendered-whines about it
I am not sure anyone understands why he is pissed off. He was not tendered as a high level first round draft choice from what I understand. He was given the lowest possible tender, that gives you the original draft pick that the player was drafted at. They could have done the same for Campbell, but elected to show him some respect and give him a high level tender. I may be wrong, but this is how I understand it. If this is the case, you can see why he is upset. Upset to the tune off at least a couple million dollars.

If there's a conclusion to be drawn here, it's that Campbell could be in the teams plans past 2010, but Rogers almost certainly is not.

Saves them nearly two million in uncapped dollars, which is the positive part.
