Yep! I know that all too well too! Married into a LONG ISLAND, ITALIAN family at that! =)

Summo, I have heard the same crap from others as well. And it wastes time explaining to them how wrong they are, but know this. Once Griffin has been in the league for awhile, and once he wins a Super Bowl - and he WILL win a Super Bowl, all that talk will stop. One thing you can remind them about is the field day that the media used to have with Eli Manning before he won his first Super Bowl. The media rode him hard, calling him a bust and what not. Two Super Bowls later, what has the media really said about Eli? Nothing but good things.

I too am an Italian but not the loudmouth kind, I'll explain. My family is Sicilian, if you are not familiar, they are the quiet brooding type that doesn't have allot to say, but when they do look out, think the Godfather. I too married an Italian girl whose family is Neapolitan, those are the loudmouth shoot first aim second type. They talk very loud use there hands when they speak have allot to say about nothing... It makes for some interesting holiday gatherings, and leads to allot of severe headaches.

And I too remember the whole Eli thing and all the Giant fans that I know wanted his head and never thought he would amount to anything. Funny, one of my friends even thought the Giants should have traded for McNabb after Eli's third season or so when he failed yet again.

So, Sicilian, married to a fellow Italian, and a Redskins fan -- like me. You know, some of us just have it all. Next time a Giants fan approaches, just make a coughing sound which sounds like "epic fail." Or you can look them in the eye and ask point blank whether they'd rather have Eli or RGIII going into next season. "Eli" is the answer for liars or fools.

I think my new family is a mixture of both. My father-in-law is not extremely talkative, but like you said, when he talks, you better listen, lol! Now, my mother-in-law, she's the talker. She told me she went out with Roger Staubach once - to some kind of dance. However, because I am her favorite son-in-law (her only one, lol) she now has converted to being a Redskins fan!

I try to look at it like this. REAL football fans, no matter their team affilation, should appreciate a player like RGIII. The sport needs a guy like him, because he's good for the sport of football. Years down the road, those guys will still dislike Griffin because he plays for the Redskins, but they'll have no choice but to respect him, because they'll all be absolutely wrong about him on the other side of this injury.

Brilliant post Summo, i was chuckling at desk the entire time! You should rant more often!

Have to say i agree with you on pretty much everything you said. I have to say, my friends who are fans of other NFC-East teams have been much more gracious. One of my Eagles friends told me he was rooting for us during the playoffs because he likes RGIII (the mere fact that he's doing this means he's not really an Eagles fan, and i'm working on converting him. His wife is 4 months pregnant with their first child, and i've already sent him a picture of his baby shower gift - a redskins "onesie." for his son/daughter.) Anyway, we were texting the entire game and he was very consilatory when RGIII left the game. I have another friend from Long Island who is a Giants fan, and he was also sympathetic. On principle alone, i'm not friends with people who are Cowboys fans.

Anyway, i have to say I am actually pleasantly surprised with how little flakk Shanahn is taking in the media. Aside from the usual local media suspects who like to stir up controversy, most pundits agree with Shanahan's decision to do what he did and/or simply say they understand the decision and its not their place to question it.

The playcalling was a major question for me, but that was Kyle's doing. By far, i think this was the most questionable game he's called this year. Still, when you re-watch the game, the playcalls seemed to be good ones - players just werent executing. Robert was not accurate throwing, and when he did throw a catchable ball, his receivers dropped passes. That said, when it was obvious robert couldnt throw as accurately as normal, Kyle should have adjusted to call more running plays. You simply cannot stop Alfred Morris, no matter how good your run defense is.

Great post Summo and I agree 100% about Morris. He had like 60 some yards on 11 or so carries in the first qt/half? Then got about 5 carries the rest of the game. I disagree with those who say that Shanny would have still caught a bunch of shit if he pulled Griffin and we lost the game. Everyone could see he was hurt and it affected his play. I wouldnt assume we'd have lost either. You have my respect for showing your colors so boldly in the heart of Giants territory. HTTR!!!

Just tell them if we didn't kick their ass and make the playoffs he wouldn't have injured his knee.

I'll post this in here for Summo's reaction.

Don't blame the player, coach, field or doctors for RGIII's knee injury. A Washington Post "journalist" says he hurt his knee because the team is racist.

For this Asshole to suggest that RG3 tore his knee up because of bad karma is a ****ing joke. RG3 didn't name the team, or even pick to play for them. If there is such a thing as karma it wouldn't be bestowed upon him. As far as the team name goes, for selfish reasons I don't want to see it change. I grew up a "Redskins" fan and I hope to die one. I do however feel bad for people who are offended by it and hope there can be some resolution for them if they are sincere. People get too caught up in labels however and if they are truly forward thinkers they wouldn't let it bother them.

Exactly! And the mayor of D.C. wanting to force the 'skins to change their name if they want to move back to the district is nothing more than a way for him to garner more votes for his reelection, that's it.

I would think, especially after last season's run, that he would garner more votes by putting on the face like, Hey we want them here but Snyder just isn't moving them right now.

The name thing is just a personal axe to grind, and will cost him as many votes as it gets him.

Although in some political circles you must be PC in order to survive the upper level demagoguery.

I also see it as a personal axe to grind as well, which is why I hope Snyder decides to either leave the 'skins in Maryland, or move them completely into VA. And like you said, I think it will eventually cost him votes.
