I'm not sure what the reason would be to make this change, but not putting the kicking team on the field and instead making a TD worth seven points changes absolutely nothing.

I saw this headline today and thought this is the stupidest thing i've ever heard of. It is one thing to try and improve player safety, but this borders on stupidity. Would this mean that kickers are mostly abolished, since Goodell currently has them mulling over eliminating the kick off completley??

He says that partially fan excitement factors into their decision, feeling that 99.9% of the time the extra point is almost automatic.

This guy sucks, seriously. I could see him saying that one day he envisions a 32 team playoff scenario because the "fans would be excited"....

Keep the PAT. Sure its almost automatic but those times when its not automatic and a team misses it seems like they end up chasing that point for the rest of the game and somehow the missed PAT ends up factoring into the final score. It aint broke and doesnt needs fixed.

Statistically the problem is that that almost never happens any more.

I'm one of the grumpy old men that dont want to change it.Theyve changed way too much over the yrs already.Pretty soon every drive will just start from the 20 yard line with no punting or kickoffs allowed.If you want to move the ball back to make it harder than ok,but dont eliminate it

That stat argues the point. We sit through successful PAT's 98.4% of the time, with misses occurring a rare 1.6% of the time.

I don't know about anyone else but I will often go to the bathroom, go to the kitchen, etc., during extra points. Watching them is pointless (no pun). On the rare occasion when one is missed, I can be sure of a replay.

You don't understand how adding some excitement to what's already the most boring and automatic play in the game improves things?

They already have a chance to go for 8 points or stay at 6. This doesnt seem like an improvement or excitement adder. It seems like an XFL gimmic.

People scoffed at the idea of adding the 2 pt conversion years ago too.

Fact is people hate change even when it's for the better.

I don't see how changing up the most boring play in the game is a bad thing at all.

I'm a grumpy old man (66) who has long thought the extra point to be useless.

I've disliked the idea of games being decided by kicks for a long time. I wouldn't mind if the field goal was eliminated, as well. If field goals were eliminated, we'd find out which team is truly the better team. Then, if teams want to win, they'd better be able to stick the ball in the end zone. If there are more ties, I'm OK with that. The better teams will still emerge over the course of a full season.

The new kickoff rule has already virtually eliminated kickoff returns. Honestly, I liked it the way it used to be because I find kickoff and punt returns to be an exciting part of the game. Yet, it's time for us to realize and accept that the NFL kicking game is on a slippery slope. If the lawyers who run the NFL office are going to eventually eliminate the kicking game in its entirety they might as well do it now.

The game can start with one team having the ball on it's own 20 yard line. Punts, perhaps renamed "Give Ups", would simply involve a HC waving a white flag and the officials would move the ball 40 yards downfield where the other team's offense would start.

I agree about kick offs, the new rule has made them a worthless waste of time. I'd eliminate the KO before the PAT.
