Re: Keenum - Week 1 Starter

While not excited by this "news", I have no issue with it as itself.

I have an issue with it being announced so early though.

One of the slight advantage we had over Philly in this game is they didn't know which QB to game plan for. Now they do.

There are only 16 games in an NFL season, how you can throw away a small thing that could even slightly help you win one is beyond me.

Re: Keenum - Week 1 Starter

How much better place are we when the debate is between a QB that led a team to nfc championship few years ago and a rookie that has a huge chance to be a long term answer at the position!! My worst fear is throwing The rook to the wolves behind a sketchy OL and him getting hurt and a big set back.. we will know after the real games start what we have in Case .. if he sucks then maybe Haskins .. but I’m with a lot of you who agree with starting Case with that tough starting schedule..

I have no issues with it. It is the right decision.I am looking forward to the season. I think Haskins starts after week 5.

The bigger question will be who starts on the online.

It's not a schedule thing for me. Right now Case is the better and more experienced QB. There's no value in sending out the less experienced guy, unless he totally separated himself from the competition, which he clearly did not. That's no way to get the rest of the team to buy into what you're doing either. Haskins will get his chance eventually...

+1

You guys are mad Haskins didn't get the job by default, since when has Gruden ever adjusted his scheme to run what a player knows? Gruden has never adjusted his scheme for a qb, except in the emergency situation last year.

These are my thoughts exactly. I do not want to screw with Haskins' growth and confidence and throw him to the wolves right away. Keenum is the safer bet and has done things before in this league whether people wanna recognize it or not. Haskins has work to do- footwork, accuracy, etc. His Big X days are over.

If you start Keenum and Keenum fails, you can go to Haskins in a situation where he can take his time and learn. On the other hand if you start with Haskins and he fails and you go to Keenum, you wonder if you just f’d his confidence. It’s an obvious choice.

You hit the nail on the head. This is the way to go.

Very good point. I think Haskins starts after game 5 when we are 0-5 or 1-4. I will be pissed if we suck and Case plays the entire season.

Re: Keenum - Week 1 Starter

FWIW Case has been the 3rd highest graded passer through pre-season. Now mostly that is due to him not playing very much but still worthy of being mentioned.

It means nothing. He has several years of tape that shows he's a back up.

My favorite preseason Hall of Fame member was Thomas Clayton. In his rookie and sophomore season he was the NFL preseason rushing leader. He bounced around the league for 5 years total and piled up 15 carries for 29 yards all in garbage time to boot. Both the Browns and Lions were 4-0 in preseason before going 0-16.

It seems like preseason is pretty meaningless except for players on the bubble trying to make the final cuts. They should cut it to 2 games or get rid of it all together.

Re: Keenum - Week 1 Starter

Haskins could start now and he'd be ok but why rush him into the lineup with a bad LT and average WR? Let the veteran take those snaps for now.

And the most brutal portion of the schedule.
