Re: Coaching Staff update

I didn't know much about him so I found this.

Solari addition pivotal for Seahawks - NFL - ESPN[/QUOTE]

Thank you! That article said that Solari was the OL coach for KC during the years when they had good offenses and especially good lines. Remember Priest Holmes, etc.?

Sounds like a good addition to me.

There was a big hullaballoo about the article back when it was written. I think everybody figured that the source was a disgruntled Archuletta. It was never corroborated by anyone so far as I know - not even separate writers with separate "anonymous" sources. I took it with a grain of salt since Archie was pissed and was just looking for a scapegoat for his incredible failure to perform up to his incredibly overhyped ability (sigh - we could still have Ryan Clark but for Archie).

Re: Coaching Staff update

His Wiki says that he was the TE coach in SF during the SB XXIX.

Quote:
Mike Solari is the Offensive line coach for the Seattle Seahawks. He previously had served as the Kansas City Chiefs offensive line coach from 1997 - 2005, and Offensive Coordinator in 2006 & 2007. Solari got his start as an offensive lineman at San Diego State University from 1972-1975. After SDSU, Mike coached at the high school level at Carlsbad, CA, and as a wrestling and assistant track coach at Orange Glen High School in 1978 - 1979. After a year at Mira Costa Junior College, he then went to United States International University (USIU) as an assistant football coach on Tom Walsh's staff.

Mike Solari spent time at Boise State, Cincinnati, Alabama, Kansas and Pitt as assistant football coach. He was with the Dallas Cowboys as special teams coach and with the San Francisco 49ers as tight ends coach, assistant O-Line coach. He held that position at Kansas City for many years tutoring some of the best lineman in the NFL. Upon the resignation of Dick Vermeil and the signing of incumbent OC Al Saunders by Washington, Solari was promoted to Offensive Coordinator. Solari was replaced by former Georgia Tech head coach and long-time NFL coach Chan Gailey. When he joined the Seahawks staff, he changed the offensive line scheme to more zone blocking.

Solari is married to wife Patti and has three children.

Re: Coaching Staff update

Here is some info:
NFL.com Blogs » Blog Archive Gray off to Seattle; Redskins ponder replacement «

Oline:
"Should Tom Cable be fired as the Raiders’ head coach, some league sources believe he could be a candidate for the Redskins’ offensive line position. Mike Solari, who had been the Seahawks’ offensive line coach until Alex Gibbs was recently hired, is another candidate"

From what I've seen Solari is a very well respected Oline coach, one tier below Alex Gibbs but that guy is old as dirt anyways and doesn't like Shanny.

Cable was the Falcons and Raiders Oline coach...I'm not sure...but I don't recall anything about those offenses being zone blocking schemes.
I'd prefer Solari...especially since Cable would be damaged goods at this point

To be fair Gregg Williams said that he was replaceable.. the whole it's not the players it's my scheme thing..

Here's the article for those who never read it or want to remind themselves of it:

Reeling Redskins awash in troubles - NFL - ESPN

It was widely believed that it was Springs.. maybe Arch but who knows

Please anyone but Tom Cable. Last thing we need is a wife beater on our team. Please please please, anyone but Tom Cable. By the way didn't the Falcon and Raider O-Lines suck when he was there?

Solari on the other hand sounds like a great fit and Shanahan should be familiar with him thanks to his work with the Cheifs O-Line. This couldn't hurt either.

Re: Coaching Staff update

The thing I am worried about with Solari, is that he did quite well with some studs in KC...that was a power rushing scheme with Al Saunders...ya know...play action stuff...that would work well with our current line.
But with Seattle, he shifted to zone blocking and they did about the same as the skins' line this year. I dont know if it was just growing pains or what, but I really don't know who mentored him with zone blocking...because based on where he came from, it like he must have picked it up on the internet or something.
He has yet to prove to be an effective zone blocking Oline coach...old school yes.

Re: Coaching Staff update

Only at ES could someone this stupid pop up.

Apparently a poster was getting ready to accept the possibility that we might hire Tom Cable as an OL coach. However instead of ignoring the wife-beating aspect he virtually decided to embrace it:

Same with the dude he snuffed on his coaching staff. There are two sides to each story. I dont care about that. I care about my team. If he comes here and continues to have domestic/anger issues, his azz is gone. We are not looking to hire a priest or school teacher. We are looking to hire an OL coach to whip these hogs into shape and up coach them. He's not going to be the face of this franchise. And like someone else said, after all that backlash he just got, he's not going to be in a hurry to get in anymore trouble. If he is one of the best out there, we need him on this team, point blank period.
Here's the part I agree with:

Then of course a wonderful rebuttal:

Like Chris Rock said, "aint NOBODY above an ass whoppin....there's a reason to push a blindman down the steps, you just dont do it"....
Oh yes, I forgot. See the reason that Tom Cable had to beat three women (that we know of) is because they were constantly coming at him with knives and punching his grandmother in an attempt to get Cable to come over to the dark side. I bet this guy was listening to Chris Brown as he posted this.

Edit: We haz mores!!11!!! I agree with everything except for the opinion on Chris Rock:

Re: Coaching Staff update

On a lighter note, our new D-Line coach is Jacob Burney:

Per JLC:
Redskins hire Jacob Burney as DL coach. Had worked with Mike Shanahan in Denver. Skins staff update on NFL Network and NFL.com
about 9 hours ago from web

Soooooo

Head Coach: Mike Shanahan
Offensive Coordinator: Kyle Shanahan
Defensive Coordinator: Jim Haslet
Special Teams Coordinator: Danny Smith

QB's: Open (Any ideas?)
RB's: Bobby Turner (Also will serve as Associate Head Coach)
WR's: Richard Mann
TE's: Open (Any ideas?)
OL: Possibly Mike Solari

LB's:Lou Spanos
DL: Jacob Burney
DB's: Bob Slowick
S: Steve Jackson

Kirk Olivadotti will serve as a Defensive Assistant, my guess is he will work with the LB's in some capacity especially since OLB's play a much different role in the 3-4 then ILB. Sort of like the difference between Safeties and Corners in the secondary. I came from a team that ran a 3-4 in High School and we had coaches for both ILB's and OLB's of course that was high school, this is the NFL.

Re: Coaching Staff update

I don't believe I've ever seen someone appeal to authority with God and Chris Rock in consecutive sentences.

It really is quite a feat. Though I don't think he understands the fact that Chris Rock is a comedian, and says certain things in hope of getting people to laugh. Either way the guy sounds like a lawyer that went to community college. "U weren't der so how do u knowz?" Sounds like Reasonable Doubt to me, when can you start?

Why are we still listing Richard Mann? He interviewed 5 days ago and we haven't heard word on it yet unless I missed something.
