Reid going to work could be good for him, to get his mind off his personal life
What about the rest of his kids? Should he step down to be there for them?

that changes the whole thing. i didn't realize he had more kids. yes, then its time for him to step down, and try to keep his younger ones from making the same mistakes

I respect Reid as a coach, he could also be a great person, and I'm not intimately familiar with what kind of dad he has been or is. But, I still think that, if his financial situation permits it, he should start watching his kids like a hawk. Yes they are grown men, but that doesn't mean that his duties as a parent ended when they turned 18.
He already took time off during the off season to deal with this. What is he suppose to do now that they are behind bars? He can't do anything except go visit them.

Andy Reid is marrried and his wife stayed home. So it's not like no parents were ever around. I was raised by a single parent and so were alot of my friends and we never ever did any crap like this.

I know we can come on a chat room and debate it but I'm hearing all the media people saying he should step down and what not. I think that's BS. Let the guy do what he wants and let him deal with his issues like a grown man and not try and decide what to do for him.

I agree 100%, but then what would the media talk about? Haven't we had enough of the Colts/Patriots talk by now?

Re: Should Andy Reid Step Down?

This is something that needs to be said: Just because your kids are acting up, doesn't make you a bad parent. I've seen it both ways. I've known kids from the hood, who had bad parents but they were model citizens. And I've seen kids from good homes getting into all types of shit.

Point being, let's no automatically assume that Reid has been entirely absent from their lives and he's been a bad father to them. These are grown ass men. I'm sure he's hurting over this, no doubt. But stepping down at this point may not do a damn thing to change these kids.

Re: Should Andy Reid Step Down?

I think he should "step down" from being an enabler to his adult children. They are no longer his responsibility. Drug addicts are manipulators extraordinaire and if he quits coaching and devotes all his time to them and making up for lost childhood, blah, blah, blah, it will only serve to prevent them from dealing with their serious problems which are their's and no one else's . If they've got an issue, give them a tissue:

Re: Should Andy Reid Step Down?

I don't think it's mine or anyone outside of the Reid's place to say whether he should step down or not. It's pretty obvious both of his kids have issues but they are big boys, they should be able to make the right choices on their own. I don't think the league should interfere either. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with the NFL and I hope that the Reid family can get this all worked out.

Yeah, I should have been clearer from the start of this thread. The two kids going to jail aren't really why I would argue he should consider stepping down. It's the remaining three kids

Re: Should Andy Reid Step Down?

I think it's absurd to think that there is any circumstantial similarity between letting your ex-con thug cousins bunk up rent free in a house you own - doing god knows what - and your kids getting into legal trouble on their own. If Reid is forced to step down it should be because his team stinks.

Re: Should Andy Reid Step Down?

He has ignored the problem up until this summer why should he step down now? He cant not say that he did not know that his kids were doing bad things before they got arrested. If he did not know he needs to know to become a better parent and be more involved in his kids life. And he can't not use the excuse of I was too busy to know what is going on due to my schedule. Family comes way before football. I know they are grown up and all and are responsible for there own actions but for him to not have a clue what they are doing is beyond belief.

Re: Should Andy Reid Step Down?

You either control your kids or you don't, sounds more like to me that Reid doesn't have the ability to teach his kids right from wrong, or insist upon it, so I don't know how quiting his job would help the matter, sounds like he needs money more than ever if he plans to help with the legal bills and so forth. Men all over the world go to work and stay away from their families and still manage to raise their children properly, one has nothing to do with the other. Reid needs to look himself in the mirror and figure out what he's doing wrong, because I believe I heard he has 3 more children he doesn't need them following their brothers down the same path.

offiss, do you have kids? the reason i ask is that I'm a firm believer of the thought that you can be the best parent in the world, and you kids can still end up in trouble. to me, this statement is ridiculous

The thing is, after a point, your kids are going to do what they are going to do. Some kids listen and other kids don't. Turns out you can't actuallty control them, or anyone else but yourself.

People deal with things different ways. Maybe the best way for Coach to do it is to Coach.

That is his choice, and his decision. We have no idea what went on in that house.

Like my daughter says: "Never judge a man until you have walked a mile in their shoes. Then you are a mile away and they have no shoes."

My 1.5 cents.
