Trust me there are worse, you just have to look harder.

Sellers is a beast. When the line was healthy the season before last he was better able to get to the second level, and the man created holes you could drive a mack truck through. Also, at 32 he is in no way young, but FB's often have some of their best production late in their career. Like Lorenzo Neal for example. It is possible that we could get another 3-5 years of excellent production from Sellers, so Im not sure we even need to start polishing a young replacement just yet. Certainly not one drafted before the 5th round. |

I like MS, but I think we can get younger and faster at the position for the future.

Re: West-Coast Offense clarification.
I love Sellers on special teams, as a receiver, and as a run blocker. I don't think Sellers is a particularly good pass-blocker however. I've seen Big Mike whiff on far too many occasions.

Re: West-Coast Offense clarification.
I definitely believe Mike Sellers is a guy you keep on the team. Yeah, he's probably more suited as a lead blocker, but are we forgetting that Chris Cooley would probably work in the passing situations?

Re: West-Coast Offense clarification.
First of all, I was never saying get rid of Sellers. If anything, I'd want to expand his role to be the anti-Reggie Bush. Try to use him to get mismatches in the passing game and getting the rock from time to time. However, to mention Sellers in the same breath as Lorenzo Neal when it comes to run blocking is ridiculous. Lorenzo Neal goes to the pro bowl every year for a reason, ask LT why he has such huge holes.
There are plenty of reasons to not want Lorenzo Neal. Cap, Age, etc. I understand and never expected the Redskins to make a move for him. While my main question was to the importance of the fullback in the west coast offense, the 2ndary question came about Neal. I really like Sellers, but just don't like him when it comes to blocking. Give him the ball and mismatches all day, but I don't recall many incidents of him clearing out a big hole for Portis. Maybe it was due to scheme, I don't know.

I also think you can see his impact by watching how much more the running game suffered when Sellers was out. In my opinon there was a huge difference. I really wish you'd reconsider and watch film, though I understand getting your hands on Redskin broadcast isn't exactly practical. The next best thing would be to watch Clinton Portis highlights on YouTube and see how much CP hung onto Sellers during key plays, especially during the course of the Giants game and the early part of the Vikings game (before he ran downfield full speed and gave himself a concussion). Of course he also did that a lot with RT and JJ. Either way I will not stand here and let you bad mouth MY BOY. Lol, caps and Bold type FTW.

Re: West-Coast Offense clarification.
I cannot fathom why anyone who has watched Sellers thinks he isn't not only a good blocker but a very good run blocker. In terms of positions that need an upgrade on our team FB is near the bottom. And certainly not with a 38 year old. Sellers is a top 5 FB in the league.

Re: West-Coast Offense clarification.
maybe draft a guy like hester (if he grades 4th round or lower) for future use (Sellers is getting old), but in the short term, we'll be alright.

Re: West-Coast Offense clarification.
Sellers does struggle to block really athletic outside ends and backers. No problem blowing the DT's out of the hole though.
I don't think I'd like Lorenzo Neal as the one big FA we can afford this year. Doesn't improve the team as much as a defensive player could.

Jacob Hester is out there as a 4th or 5th rounder

Re: West-Coast Offense clarification.
I have to agree with young Earthquake here. There are many reasons to be a Mike Sellers fan, but his blocking is at best average. He is all about the kill shot and very little about technique.
