In the other, it's essentially just leveraging the fact that they control Rogers' rights, making a trade more enticing to a team that only has to pay his salary for one year at $1+ million, and basically suggesting that he's gone after this year.

Saves them nearly two million in uncapped dollars, which is the positive part.
Curious if you think anyone will yield a 2nd rounder for Los? How about a 3rd rounder?...and would our FO let him go for that?

The problem is not that we wouldn't give him up at that price, but that he's old-ish (Rogers, 29 on 6/2, is actually a few days older than Asomugha, who was a 2003 first round pick), and the team that trades for him would not necessarily be the team who is looking to sign him to a long term deal.

So the price becomes an issue. What is the value of one-year of Rogers in draft pick compensation. If it's, say, a 5th rounder, I don't think the Redskins would take a 5th rounder for one year of Rogers. I think they would be happier with a year of him and then letting him walk.

They would obviously trade him for a second or third rounder, but it's going to be hard to find a team that wants to pay that price. This tender makes it easier though.

I think he'll be here in 2009, and he's going to get a lot of FA play next year as a free agent, labor deal pending.

Well no one would have given us a second for him, so giving him a high level tender was more than fair since they could have given him a low level tender and still would require a first to get him.

Are you talking about Campbell or Rogers? Because let's not forget that things are different this offseason. Very limited talent out there that is not RFA, so teams may be willing to pay up a little bit more than last season.

Poor Carlos rogers, he gets burned, beat, cooked, and now tendered. Oh wait this isn't about how bad he is at coverages.

Re: Rogers tendered-whines about it

He just said in an interview last week "With the new coaching and everything I DEFINATLY wanna be here." They tendered him so he gets to stay. In theory he got what he wanted lmao. He shoulda said, i wanna stay here WITH an extended deal AND get paid like a top 10 cornerback since we all know thats what he is thinking. Id take a 2nd or 3rd n 6th rounder for him.

Well we took a 3rd round corner last year and he barely saw the field. You are undervaluing Rogers.

Re: Rogers tendered-whines about it

I happened to catch this read when it was posted on RI. I couldn't help but just shakin the head and thinking this retard is still just simply clueless and must have a I.Q. of a potatoe chip.

I can only hope that another team is dumb enough to off load this headache of our hands, and we get a draft pick for this clown.

He's been on my list of fools to go for some time, but last year when he called out the man that signs the checks. I thought finally he would get his wish and maybe we could get a real corner in return.

I hate to think we are stuck with this for another year, I don't think clown show and new management will see things the same. Maybe they can at least work a trade to get his worthless ass outta DC. LOS don't let the door hit you in the ass.

Time to take the trash to the dumpster and clean the house of all the fools that don't even understand/or aren't smart enough to play there position.

Re: Rogers tendered-whines about it

Essentially, this is a comparable deal. It's the last time Shanahan dealt a starting caliber corner a year away from free agency:

Atlanta Falcons | News | Falcons trade for Foxworth, make roster moves

He got a seventh-round pick in exchange. I'd be much happier with holding on to Rogers, if that's the return.

Re: Rogers tendered-whines about it

Losing Rogers, if someone does pony up a 2nd or maybe just a 3rd, could sting in the short run. Westbrook and Tryon aren't great in coverage nor great playmakers. Barnes is a total ? at this point. However if the FO is dead set on getting Robinson then losing Rogers means squat...and in this case who really cares what we get for him.

...is it just me or does our secondary have more drama/headcase action than other positions? Landry acts like an insane person and Rogers has the maturity of an 8 yr old every other day.

I would say that this team needs to maximize the value of any and every deal going forward. Otherwise it is business as usual.
