Re: 2015 Free Agents
I've never been a fan of free agency cause it doesn't work. Free agency is like buying a used car. It ran well before you got it, then when you buy it, it doesn't perform like it did in the past. I hope SM stays real quiet this year. Maybe add a piece here and there. This needs to be a year of rebuilding and getting as many young guys on the field as possible. Going to be hard for him to do with Allen and Snyder in the building. Those two clowns love to win the offseason.

Re: 2015 Free Agents
merriweather has only played in 50% of games since he's been here. that's just not reliable enough. if he's cheap he's worth keeping, but you can't depend on him for 16 games.

Re: 2015 Free Agents
My new GM is an advocate of building through the draft.
"Why hire guys that are not familiar with your system, injury issues, and may have other habits that we don't like. Let's bring in our own guys through the draft and teach them what we want and pay them to keep them. Free Agency is a tool available that we may also use when it makes sense" --Scott McC....> < Until he proves this will not work, I am ALL in with this philosophy. Been waiting years to hear it. HTTR...... Look how well the FA philosophy has served us in the past...

Re: 2015 Free Agents
Yeah its time to build up this team and we do it by the draft no more FA BS. Yeah we can go get a couple starters in FA but I want all our picks. Trade cousins for a 5 if we can also. No sense in having him and rg3

Re: 2015 Free Agents
The reality of the NFL is that we will need to dabble in Free Agency. If you listened to Scot, he drafts based on BPA, not Need.
That means, to fill Needs, we'll have to use Free Agency. Also, we have several current roster members (at least 11) who will be UFA's: Orakpo, Polumbus, Helu, J Jenkins, Meriweather, Hankerson, Paul, Moss, McCoy, Clark & Biggers to name a few. So, we draft BPA and hope that we get all of those positions filled? Seriously? I think it's clear that we will need to have some involvement in Free Agency. Avoiding Free Agency is as silly as Avoiding draft picks. Good teams strike a balance....hopefully, we become a good team soon. |

Polumbus - Demoted Helu - Backup J Jenkins - Bust Meriweather - Concussed or suspended Hankerson - Contributed nothing Paul - Special Teamer Moss - Not in Skins plans McCoy - Noodle armed stopgap Clark - Done Biggers - Sucks These players need to be replaced via FA? Uh, no. They could all leave and not be missed on the field.

Re: 2015 Free Agents
" Why not resign your own" ? ahhh because the team was 4-12 and you can do better - Paul is a special teams player masquerading as a TE - Helu is an average 3rd down back

Re: 2015 Free Agents
I think both had decent backup years, Helu certainly filled a role. If you are saying go out and get someone else for comparable dollars, sure bring guys in for competition as well as some undrafted rookies. BUT if you are saying we need to spend much more to upgrade those positions I say there is value to the guys who have solid chemistry, have effective if not standout ability and our FA dollars are better spent elsewhere. Another way to say it is those guys are holes only if you choose to make them one, in which case you need to have a plan that produces more without spending unreasonably over what their resign fee would be.

I feel bad for Jenkins, he showed promise during pre-season his first year but that injury really killed his ceiling. I will never understand why some people are still enamored with Hank. lol I remember getting into a huge argument with some guy on the board a year or two ago, because he swore Hank was going to be a formidable #1.

Let them all test the market and come back before even considering to offer.

Re: 2015 Free Agents
Helu hasn't done much in 2 years. Paul had 1 good game last yr.

Re: 2015 Free Agents
Helu and Paul are perhaps worth keeping if looked at purely as depth players rather than starters.
Depth has been an issue with this team for years.

Re: 2015 Free Agents
I for one hope we keep Helu. Especially on 3rd down he's shown to be one of the more reliable pass catching rbs in the league. Paul is hit or miss, depends on the price. He shows flashes when called upon, but I also like some of the young talent coming out in the draft this year who can both block and be a threat in the passing game which would allow us to not worry about wasting two roster spaces on people who do one and not the other. Don't really want to keep any of the other free agents we have.

I don't know how offenses work, but I know we're bringing in big fatties for the line... Would that mean we're changing to a shifty cut runner (like Helu) or a big power runner (Alfmo)?
