When he gets released from Seattle this offseason, Hasselbeck will be our stop-gap until Colt is ready to take the reigns (pun intended). :smashfrea

I was resisting the urge to say that

Why is it that Collins is never mentioned? I mean it's not like they're paying the man peanuts.

What's most interesting in all of this it that seems that the one guy (the one key guy that is) that doesn't seem to enamored with Sanchez either by trading up or taking him at 13 is Cerrato.
The most interesting place to be right now would be in the scouting rooms around the NFL, and specifically the conversations between DS, VC, and JZ. They always say that going in they come to a overriding agreement on what the game plan is, and if I understand it, VC pulls the trigger on draft day. This week would surely be interesting to hear the confidential conversations.

Because he's a 38 year old career backup who was effective (and not exactly prolific-but effective) in a system that he was brought in to run and we don't run anymore. The only reason he's still on the team is because he had that playoff run. Any other offseason he'd be out looking for work and not finding much success in securing it.

I'm not dead but this team is dead to me...but now that McCloughan is here they may have new life!

Jay Gruden = Zorny McSpurrier
Kirk Cousins = Next Grossman

Soups not playing in a system he was brought in either. Kurt Warner has put the age thing to rest. He sure does make a lot of money for someone that should be looking for a job.

Fair point, if you're going to move in another direction, why not move now? I just don't understand why they feel the need to move on from Campbell. I like Sanchez (much more than Stafford) but is he that much of an improvement over Campbell? Heck, why not just trade for Leinart?

I like Zorn and I like Campbell - I just dont like them together. While its possible both Zorn and Campbell have success in 2009 and beyond, i dont think its likely. If you asked me to chose between the two now, i'd chose Zorn, if for no other reason than that if we fired him after 2009 and kept Campbell, Campbell would have to learn another offense and start from scratch again.
My mind must be playing tricks on me. I thought you were anti-Zorn (regardless of Campbell). And if it's Gruden or Shanahan (or even Holmgren) next year than Campbell would likely not have to learn a new system. And if it's Cowher then he would conceivably be in that drop-back system that many (yourself included I believe) think he is best suited for.

We've kept the same defensive scheme in place 5 years and, with one exception, our defense has been very good for those 5 years. The way i see it, we committed to the WCO and we need to keep it here a minimum of 5 years. Lets keep the system in place and gradually adjust our personnel to suit that system over the course of that timeframe.
Constantly changing systems is not good on any level.

Ultimately I don't think this will end up happening for a few reasons:

There's a very good chance our offense will be significantly better in year 2 for Campbell, Zorn, and a handful of young ball-catchers. Plus the O-line will be in better shape. Snyder knows this. It's not like sticking with the current QB situation is a big roll of the dice. It's safe and prudent, and allows us to fix other holes and maintain continuity and growth with a solid QB and system.

Snyder should not go after Sanchez by shipping off multiple picks and/or players and stick with Campbell instead because regardless of the outcome of Zorn/Campbell in '09, Snyder benefits. We all know as Campbell goes, so does Zorn, and vice versa. If they flop this season, Snyder can dump them both, and will have an opportunity at the outstanding 2010 QB draft class. Not to mention the head coaches that'll be available - Holmgren, Cowher, Gruden, Shanahan, Billick, etc. He would be giddy about the splash he could make.

And if Zorn and Campbell take a big step forward, Snyder looks great for being patient and allowing continuity to play it's course.
You sure about that? The offensive line has been on shaky ground for a couple of years now. Every year the front office ignores the offensive line the closer we are to absolute Armageddon up front. Snyder thinks the O-line will be in better shape, that's why he's willing to enter the Sanchez Sweepstakes.

You're right though, I don't think it'll happen anyway. Sanchez could be gone by pick #2. And Seattle might not want to pass him up at #4. You're also correct that this is Go Time for Zorn and Campbell. If they don't light it up and make a deep run into the playoffs, that will be the perfect opportunity for Snyder to wash his hands of the both of them.

I'd be shocked if Hasslebak got released...but I wouldn't be mad if this scenario happened!

As long as we got trade value for JC...2nd round pick anyone?

Given that Snyder can't go 15 minutes without grabbing the attention of the entire NFL universe, I have to say that what our plans should conditionally be in 2010 probably isn't high up on the Redskins' priority list.

Cerrato just isn't a big trade up guy anyhow. Snyder seems to be less worried about winning this time of year than he is about finding the youngest, most marketable athlete at any position. Unfortunately for Cerrato, his NFL legacy is going to be defined by the actions we do/do not take within the next week or so, so if he's ever going to stand up for what he believes is the best way to build the Redskins, now would be a pretty good time.

Snyder is all about winning when it comes to August, but the NFL is a 12-month sport now more than ever, and our intentions now seem to be counterproductive to our desires for the upcoming season.

Disqualified because he throws with the same hand as Brunell.

How many play-offs has Soup, Colt, or Sanchez taken us to? Our offensive line isn't anything like Arizona's either.

Well, technically, we won 9 games in 2007 to make the playoffs, and Campbell started 6 of those. While win percentage tells another tale, I say: Small Sample Size.

Old guys can compete at the QB position, but usually only if they were pretty great in their younger days. There's not much demand or value for guys who have breakout months at age-36.

Who won the games against New York, The Vikings, and the Cowboys? That got us to the play-offs. I'm just saying no one ever talks about a guy who has beaten the Giants with everything on the line. We didn't beat them last year and they're the cream of the NFC East right now.
I know he's not the future of the franchise but damn, why such an outpouring for guys who've never won a game for us, Colt or Sanchez?
