Not sure Cowher would be a good fit as HC. A defensive minded HC with a history in the 3-4. If Cowher comes in and Williams stays, it may cause some minor issues in defensive philosophies.
For the life of me I just don't understand why everyone keeps bringing up Bill Cowher. It's just not going to happen. He's going to want full control, which IS NOT going to happen as long as Danny is the owner. He's going to want a 3-4 defense. Last time I checked we DO NOT have 3-4 personel. So that would set things back. And Cowher has said he is happy sitting on his ass doing TV and enjoying life. COWHER IS NOT COMING HERE.

This has to go to Greg Williams -- Keep Saunders around as OC with full control of the offense, promote Blache to ass. HC Defense. It's already setup for a perfect transition -- do it.
I have to disagree with you on this one daseal, I don't believe either Williams or Saunders are true head coaching material, Cower would be a great fit right now. The problem will arise with Williams if he doesn't get the nod for head coach, but I just think he's a very good coordinator and that is as far as it goes, but I do think he may get the promotion ala Richie Petitebone, but it wont work out, I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I think he has to at least be in the discussion given he's the biggest name out there. I'd be surprised if he's not on our radar at all.

Re: Who is Next?

I'm with the crowd that would like to see Grilliams become HC with Saunders stay on as OC. I see NO reason to change either coordinator and I see numerous reasons to keep both. I'm not sure that Grilliams' cocky and brash personality will win the "hearts and minds" of the players, but I want to see as little turnover as possible. I swear, just when familiarity starts to breed wins, we tend to blow the whole thing up and start from scratch. I pray we don't blow things up this go around.

Promote Blache to Asst.Head Coach defense.

I wonder about what will happen to Bugel. If he goes, who do we bring in to coach the o-line? Ray Brown?
I suspect that both Buges and Breaux will follow Gibbs into retirement. I'm going to miss those three.

No, he might as well resign...sell it all to someone who cares.

I have a really bad feeling about next year. I hope I'm wrong but this team has been the antithesis of "change is good."

I have a real good feeling about next year, and as long as there isn't that much turnover I think we could contend for another Super Bowl!

I don't think Cowher would go anywhere yet. He retired to be with his daughters and family...do you seriously think he'd be sick of it after 2 years? That would be unfair to his family he gave up football for.

I know he'll be back some day. He won't be able to stay away forever, but 2 years?

That's like expecting Gibbs to return again in 2010.

I think the issue is that they are settled in NC, and DC would be a lot closer than Pittsburgh.

Re: Who is Next?

Let's take a look from the other side of the coin, who would want the Redskins coaching job. It does come with baggage.

a) You have an owner and VP (Vinnie) that are going to be involved in decision making. Snyder is better now than before but he will not give up full control again to anyone other than Gibbs. Cowher will want full control

b) We are not going to be able to overhaul the roster due to cap limitations. We aren't in cap hell, but we can't go crazy in FA either, so whoever comes here will have to utilize largely the same roster.

b2) Our offensive roster is built for a Coryell/Saunders/Gibbs type offense. Big blockers, built for power rushing, and play-action. Saunders wrinkles to that system are timing oriented and will NOT NOT NOT work well if we get a west-coast style offensive coach in here (Mariucci for example).

b3) Our defensive roster is built for the G.Williams system, and it even more than the offense is extremely scheme oriented. While we have some raw talent on D, I believe our roster would be no better than a 25th ranked D if they were forced to play in a 3-4 style. (Another knock against Cohwer)

c) The team went through an emotional trauma that forced them to really bond as a unit, and a new coach...an outsider... will NOT be accepted by the majority of the players as their emotional leader because he "wasn't there" when they had to deal with the things they dealt with this year.

Due to all the reasons listed above, I have a very difficult time seeing a scenario where we go outside the organization for a new HC. I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem like a good fit. Besides, Williams is gone if he isn't the next HC here, he'll take another job elsewhere, and again, without his scheme, our D is in trouble. I think the only logical choice to retain a hope of a winning record next year is GW.

Re: Who is Next?

I'd like to go on record now as saying that if we hire Pete Carroll (sp?) we are royally fucked. That'll go down like the demon seed of Nick Saban and Bobby Petrino.

Buges is going through some very serious family issues himself. He probably wants to be with his family too.

Can anyone tell me what Breaux does? He is more invisable than Saunders.

My guess is that Danny has learned from his past mistakes (e.g., Spurrier), has his finger on the pulse of the Redskins players, and will keep Grilliams and Saunders here with Grilliams playing the starring role as HC.
