This & This.

I hate losing and they should (and will) try to win every game. Sometimes, however, you just don't have the horses. If that's the case, so be it. I just don't see us as being so bad that we end up in the top 3-4 slots. I am betting we are in the 6-10 to 9-7 range (though I hope for better). As long as we get younger and, hopefully, better over the course of the season, I am okay with that for 2011.

I wouldn't say the redskins will intentionally tank, but rather go through a rebuilding phase which naturally involves losing. Without a qb (or good WRs, or a good Oline), we are bound to lose ALOT. I think Shanahan knows this, and I don't think even he expects to make 500 no matter who we get in FA. I would like for him to recognize our deficiencies and try to improve upon those this free agency so we can improve as a team for the future. I don't believe we are capable of improving enough no matter who we get to make the playoffs, so I would like for us to get future contributors while still not getting a QB so that our team can improve in the long run but not enough to win too many games this season so that we can still be in the running for luck.

Players will not tank because they want either a roster spot, a payday, or both.
Coaches won't tank because their jobs are on the freaking line.
Only GMs can deliberately weaken their team to the point of suckage, and even then, tanking is INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT because the players and coaches will always want to win.

IF we're going to talk about the presumed 2012 draft, let's not talk about tanking, let's talk about what Danny & Bruce have up their sleeve to land one of the QBs. It's way too early to talk about that, but come draft time next year I'm sure they will be on the phones looking into everything. I have confidence in Bruce Allen that he could pull off a crazy deal to move up if anybody can.

The "Suck to get Luck" strategy is for moonbats and fruitcakes.
Probably the same people that think Sept. 11 was an inside job.

Don't even compare that to football

There are plenty of loony adults out there.

Look, if the 2011 season is an absolute train wreck and the team goes 2-14, fine. But any thought of "tanking" is just absurd and unrealstic.

Fair to say. I to am done talking about this topic, and will not talk about this anymore until late in the season, should we be bad.

Also...this guy must be a lurker here and thinks the idea is ridiculous too.

Starting Beck is no 'tank' job for Redskins - NFC East Blog - ESPN

Quote:
Enough already. The Redskins are in no way planning to "tank" an entire NFL season, mainly because teams don't do that. This (thankfully) isn't the NBA, where the insane salary-cap structure encourages teams to lose games intentionally in an effort to improve their position in the draft and/or free agency. The 2011 Redskins are not the 2008-09 New York Knicks, and their decision to go with apparently substandard personnel at the most important position on the field shouldn't make anybody think this is the case.

Re: This Just In---Andrew Luck To Stay At Stanford

How would you define "tanking the season"

If Santana Moss is healthy but we keep him inactive in order to give Terrence Austin more playing time at WR, are we tanking the season?

If we are offered Carson Palmer and a late conditional pick for Albert Haynesworth and our 2nd and 3rd round picks in 2012 and we say no, we'll stick with Rex and Beck, have we decided to tank this season?

I'd say probably yes to the first and no to the second (though I do have high hopes for TA this year).

Re: This Just In---Andrew Luck To Stay At Stanford

#1- Tanking the season is obsurd, especially if its simply to get one player. No matter what position they play.

#2- No way the team tanks the season especially with the media and fans all expecting MS to get into the playoffs this year or he's fired.

#3- There is no way the Skins get Luck unless they throw a heck of a lot at the team with the #1 pick.

#4- Luck is not a demi god. I'm sure there will be other QB's just as good if not better since I'm totally expecting Luck to suck this year under new management.

I'm really suprised this thread is still running. Tanking the season. Yeah, ok. I hope the team is paying attention so they get the idea.
