Re: 79 Mock Drafts: Sam Bradford still Redskins projected choice
West Virginia OL Selvish Capers -- Capers was the best offensive lineman on the South team on Day 2, showing good mobility when getting to the second linebacker as a run blocker. He also played with balance and showed good lateral mobility with his feet. During 1-on-1 drills, Capers anchored well and held his ground, at one point just erasing East Carolina DE C.J. Wilson on consecutive plays. He is not overly explosive and will have trouble at times with bigger bull rushers, and Capers needs to get stronger in the lower body, but he will be a good fit for a zone blocking scheme in which the emphasis is on getting into space and taking sound angles to defenders because he plays under control and has good feet.
Looks like I might have been wrong about Iupati Idaho OL Mike Iupati -- There is not a weakness in Iupati's game when he's lined up at guard. His quick first step, lateral quickness, and long arms make him a dominant force inside, and he is a nasty finisher who is not satisfied until defenders are on their backs. And while he struggled a bit when moved to left tackle during practice, Iupati is stepping up against the higher level of competition and based on what we've seen we have no problem giving him a late-first-round grade as a guard. In fact, he's the best guard prospect we've seen in the last two drafts. • UMass OL Vladimir Ducasse is talented but is being exposed a bit on the first day in pads. His lack of technique and playing experience is showing today. • West Virginia's Selvish Capers has been the best offensive lineman on the South team during Day 2. He is showing good mobility, is getting to the second level well and would be a good fit for a zone-blocking team. Capers stopped Georgia DL Jeff Owens cold twice during drills. • Georgia DT Geno Atkins is showing good quickness today and looks like a solid fit as a 3-technique in the NFL. At one point, Atkins abused Alabama G Mike Johnson with a quick first step and good hand use.

Re: 79 Mock Drafts: Sam Bradford still Redskins projected choice
Washington Redskins
Top needs: QB, OT, RB, G, DE First round (4): Sam Bradford Second-round options (37): OT Charles Brown, OT Selvish Capers, RB Jahvid Best Third-round options: No third-round picks (used in the supplemental draft) Summary: For a roster that really needs an infusion of talent and depth, you could question the quarterback pick so early, but Bradford represents a chance to get a franchise quarterback, and again, you're getting the player many had pegged as the No. 1 option for the Lions last year had he jumped. You expect Mike Shanahan to retool the offensive line, and both Brown and Capers are the athletic types Shanahan prefers.

What kind of parents name their child "Selvish"? I wonder how much grief he got as a kid.

Re: 79 Mock Drafts: Sam Bradford still Redskins projected choice
Three times in the last decade we've drafted QB's in the first round of the draft, we're still in search of that so called "franchise QB."
The last time we considered choosing a QB in the top five was 1994 (Heath Shuler) need we be reminded of the result? I am reminded however of the pro-bowlers we missed out on that year, notwithstanding the financial aspect and the set back it causes for the team when you miss on your expectation. Take a look at a few players we missed out on as a resut of drafting Shuler. Willie McGinest Bryant Young Sam Adams Aaron Glenn Joe Johnson Todd Steussie Jamir Miller....And just to provoke a little more controversy we'll throw in Trent Dilfer. A pretty impressive list of players. Trusting Bruce Allen is not going to formulate his Father's creed in "The Future Is Now" less the team will become old in a hurry. I say if we're going to draft a QB, it would be wise to perhaps try to land a guy like Dan LeFevour if possible, use this year to install principles and philosophies. After the maelstrom that can form as a result of what is expected to be long and complex labor negotiation subside, we will have a blue chip player like LeFevour to promote from within. |

We should definitely take a QB "later" in the draft.

Re: 79 Mock Drafts: Sam Bradford still Redskins projected choice
He's been doing just ok the past few days in the senior bowl according to scouts. One scout said that he throws a lot of balls which he receivers have to adjust to a lot.
What do you all think of Terrance Cody, he's come in at 370lbs, they said after ten plays he was gased, but yet he still needed double and triple teams, his stock could/will fall because of this and who knows he could fall to the second or third round. Now what if we got him to be our 3-4 NT and when we're in a 4-3 we could have him come in on plays which Haynesworth sits out of. This could be a good thing for us that he's doing bad right now in senior bowl workouts.

My argument would be that we can find very good oline talent in the later rounds as opposed to what seems to be a "can't miss" prospect in Bradford. It's all a crap shoot I guess...but I certainly understand your point.

Is it just me or does Anthony Davis look horrible? On top of that he has off the field issues!
I sure as shit hope we don't draft that guy. |

Okung is easily the best pass protector of the bunch and I came away very impressed with his high/low video. However the guy that intrigues me the most right now is Charles Brown. The scouting reports weren't kidding when they said that he was athletic. I mean just his ability to move in run blocking and finishing plays was enough to impress me. I also saw him pull on toss plays that I had seen the Bronco's run with Clady. Only thing that worries me about Brown is his ability to take on the bull rush. Buluga also looks pretty promising but I'm still waiting for his video to load all the way. In other news McCoy stinks. I mean I know arm strength is overrated but his ability, or lack of, to throw the deep out scares me. Bradford on the other hand was better then I expected. A lot of his throws didn't impress me the way Clausen did, but he did throw more tough passes then I had expected. Also his release and accuracy is second to none. Only thing that scares me about Bradford right now is his lack of experience under center.
