Re: Redskins vs. Falcons Post-Game Thread
I think it's time to let Rak go. Kruger got 8-9 million? That probably means Rak can get a little more on the open market. We've seen him now for several years and he's not worth that kind of money. The defense last year played better w/out him. I'd save the money and gamble with Jenkins, Tapp and Jackson.

He May not be elite...but he sure as hell has not played for an elite coaching staff! I would really like to see a killer DC evaluate our guys for better, more efficient/inventive use before we kick 10 sacks p/yr to the curb

I wouldn't. We have the bookends to build our defense around with Rak and Kerrigan and if Rak commands 5 yrs 40-45 million then give it to him. Like everyone has said he is NOT elite but you don't find guys like him just sitting on the street waiting to be picked up.

That's because we have a number of positions to fill. We can improve significantly if we can just man those positions with capable - not necessarily outstanding - players. We really need to get bang for the buck in the free agency market this time around.

I dunno. Im torn. Orakpo was that blessing that fell to us in the draft, I remember how lucky I felt when he dropped to us that day. But he WILL command more than 9 mil a year. Possibly 9.5 or 10 a year. If it stays at 10 or below, he has the work ethic and is really growing as a pass rusher, I say get him. Having legit threats at both ends is a value that cannot be understated. At least not in todays NFL. I just really think this team would function so much better with Orakpos and Kerrigans hand in the dirt on every play. I would love to switch back to 43 next year. That might be wishing on a prayer though, but I believe it could be done, and it might just take some pressure off of our shit secondary. |

Re: Redskins vs. Falcons Post-Game Thread
The thing I don't like is the broadcast team from last week seemed to suggest Rak was looking forward to testing the open market. And I know that FA always tends to overvalue pass rashers, even if they are just semi-decent ones like Rak. I'd like to have him back at the right price, but I'm concerned he's gonna bolt once he gets a huge contract offer. We could do a lot worse than Rak. Anyone remember '08 Phillip Daniels? Good guy but non-existent as a pass rushing DE.

Re: Redskins vs. Falcons Post-Game Thread
I see what you are saying moob, but i'd be hardpressed, now this is just me, to rate orakpo as a semi decent pass rusher. He is definite top 10 with all the talent to be top 5. I hope he is not the type to phone it in after getting 48 mill over 5 or 6 years, and I don't think he would. The guy is a team first guy, and has a great work ethic from every report I've ever read.

Just recently he said he wants to stay here.
Brian Orakpo says his preference remains to re-sign with Redskins |

Re: Redskins vs. Falcons Post-Game Thread
Michael Johnson, Anthony Spencer and Julius Peppers each get around 11.5 - 12.5 per year. Tamba Hali makes 11.8.
Is there any universe that Brian Orakpo isn't worth 7.5 or 8 mil per year for us? I think that he might walk if someone offers 10 mil per or above. Unless he is serious about staying a skin, and we up our offer to around 9 or so, I see him going elsewhere. I would cap it at 9 per year though. Backloaded too, in case of that nagging pec acts back up. |
