observation: watching the Ravens was a bizarre experience, seeing as it's been ages since I've seen a disciplined, tough, focused NFL team in my back yard. Seemingly everything the Redskins do/have done wrong, the Ravens did the oppostie. It's a brutally frustrating situation.

My thoughts?

I'll start with a powder keg explosion:

- trade Portis while he's still got some value. You all love how he's a "gamer." Well dude ain't durable either, after about week 11 he was worthless. "But Tiger he's small and he plays his little heart out!" miss me with that. We're 8-8 he didn't make us any better or worse, so ship him off while we can still get a pick or two for him.

other thoughts:

- trade Santana and Randle El too while you're at it, also for picks. Santana is of little value to us anymore and Randle El is Randle El.

- Commit to building a strong O-Line for the long term. This is the number one priority in my opinion.

- Let Jason Taylor walk, or trade him to the Patriots. he's up their alley, see Junior Seau.

- pursue an offensive LEADER in the draft, someone who can rally the troops, cause Campbell clearly isn't doing that.

- when it comes to Campbell........sigh........I don't know. He deserves probably about four more games. If he STILL looks like a bamma after first quarter, commit to developing the kid.

-think about drafting linebackers. Fletcher, as great as he is, can't play forever, and the rest of the LB corps are pretty much bammas.

- look, with the arguable exception of Cooley, we don't have a single dynamic play maker on offense. I don't know how you fix that problem, without spending a load or with a lack of draft picks, but a little explosion would help.

the harsh reality:

Until Danny Snyder hires football people who can honestly and eagerly evaluate football talent, this team will be what it's been for the last half of a decade, average-to-bad. I heard on 980 in the post game that the last two years, the Giants have had 8 rookies make their roster in both seasons. E-I-G-H-T. That's 16 new players in the last 24 months on a 53 man roster. But hey, at least we got see Adam Archuleta play! Simply put, if this team ever wants to develop a feasible blueprint for longterm success any time soon, Vinny Cerrato MUST go and be replaced by a patient person with a vast knowledge of professional football.

again, just my thoughts (c) hov, reply as you wish.

god, I don't know if I've ever been this burnt on them, **** this team.

hail.

Jets Complain About Scheduling Conflict With Jewish Holidays
Posted by Mike Florio on April 16, 2009, 6:47 p.m.
On Tuesday night, a reader in New York pointed out that the Jets’ first two home games conflict with the Jewish high holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

According to the New York Daily News (via ESPN.com), the Jets complained to the league office about the scheduling quirk on Wednesday.

The Jets are due to host the Patriots on September 20, the final day of Rosh Hashanah. They also host the Titans on September 27, the first day of Yom Kippur.

Though Yom Kippur doesn’t begin until sundown on September 27, the Titans-Jets game is scheduled to commence at 4:15 p.m. EDT.

The complaint from the team apparently resulted from complaints to the team.

“The Jets are hearing from their fans,” Howard Katz, NFL senior VP of broadcasting, told the Daily News. “There was miscommunication between the Jets and the NFL office, for which I take full responsibility. All we can continue to do is look and see if there is a solution to this.”

The easy solution would be to move the September 27 game against the Titans to 1:00 p.m. EDT, and perhaps to move the September 20 game against the Jets to prime time, since Rosh Hashanah ends at sundown that day.

Another alternative would be to flip-flop the Pats-Jets games, with New England hosting on September 20 and the Jets hosting on November 22. But such a move would give the Jets four straight home games in November, with a bye week after the first one.

It would also put the Patriots on the road for four straight weeks.

UPDATE: We tried to allow comments to this one, but realized that it was impossible to screen out the anti-Semitic remarks. I love this audience, but some of you who choose to post here can be real assholes. (And, no, I’m not just figuring that out tonight.)

Perhaps I'm missing something or am not as simpathetic as I should be but are the Jets a Jewish team now? I just don't see the significance. Are the people worried about drinking alcohol on the Jewish holiday or is it they want to eat pork in the parking lot prior to the game? One would think they would be excited about having a game on a holiday.

I didn't see it, but it's like any other group, people feel the need to complain just to be heard sometimes.

It's all good, fellow Cali brother. Far as I'm concerned there's no better way to ring in the new year than with a visit to the Q -- hopefully one that nets us a vic as we gear up for the playoffs.

Let's strap 'em on, boys. Time to get this party started.

Has training camp started yet? No?

Oh okay, well I'll be back then.

Schedule looks nice though. Skins will be tested towards the end of the season.

Re: Washington Redskins 2009 Schedule

It's not the schedule, it's the team! The schedule is set up for us to succeed. The whole NFC east plays the trash afc west teams, but the decent nfc south teams. We got tampa, who's rebuilding, atlanta, nawlins, and panthers. i could see us winning 3 of 4 right there...n i'll be happy with a 3-3 split in our division.

But it all depends on how JC plays, and if Thomas and/or Kelly show up and make an impact this season.

Jews have to be at home before sundown or something like that. They certainly aren't suppossed to be at a football game. The Jets probably (read definitely) have a sizable Jewish following and I would suspect that in the past consideration was given to their schedule in this regard. Of course there are a decent number of Jews in Baltimore as well so I don't know what the league does.

New York City has by far the largest concentration of Jews of any place in the country. Hence the seed of the sensitivity.

The problem is that both games are happening during the High Holy Days, the most sacred part of the Jewish calendar. During this period Jews are expected to be solemn and reflective, not out partying. This is especially true for one of the games which falls on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. Starting at sundown this day and running through sundown the next day, Jews are expected to reflect on their sins and ask God for atonement in a very serious, reflective way. They are supposed to apologize to anyone who they have wronged in the last year. Going to a football game is seen as inconsistent with this quiet reflection.

The game on Yom Kippur has been moved from 4:15 to 1:00 to accommodate this. The earlier kickoff allows Jews to attend the game and still get home before sundown start of the day of reflection.

All this having been said, my guess is that most Jewish Jet fans will be reflecting more on the game they just lost than on their sins.
