I’m surprised they reached a deal but glad they did!

Agreed, as its the kind of commitment I wouldn't expect from Snyder at this juncture. Or maybe it helps with the sale, helping retain assets?

Re: Commanders Free Agency Expectations

I wonder if this means signing Chase’s 5th year option is less likely. We have a lot of $ tied up in this line.

Re: Commanders Free Agency Expectations

Thats a bigger deal than I would have expected, would almost certainly signal the end of one of Sweat or Young. Good thing to get it done before the other FA DTs get their new deals though.

On the plus side, as the first year cap hit is usually engineered to be less than half the APY of the contract we should get an extra $8-10m in cap space aswell

Re: Commanders Free Agency Expectations

I’m pretty surprised this got done, because as soon as the ink goes on the contract the commanders have to put the $60M guaranteed cash aside in escrow. So Dan either signed off on that, or the sale is so close and so assured that he doesn’t care because he’s about to land $6B.

But I’ll take it! Happy to lock up our guys. What we do at end is a really interesting question now. Trade Chase? I can see an argument for it.

But none on an OLinemen or QB, which is the beauty of maybe signing Sweat and Chase. Most teams have their money invested on both DL and OL. I would now cut Thomas and Roullier.

Re: Commanders Free Agency Expectations

Interesting tidbit on escrow requirements

Quote:
Kevin Sheehan on Twitter

(1of 2) So on the “escrow” requirement for the Payne deal.

@SalaryCap101 just told me the review for 2023 escrow requirements just took place on Jan 31st 2023.

Deadline to fund is end of this month on March 31st.

But because the Payne deal came after this yrs review date…

(2 of 2) ….his deal won’t be reviewed for escrow purposes until the next review date which is Jan 31st, 2024.

So, whatever portion of the gtd $60M hasn’t been paid as of next year, that amt will be will be put into escrow.

Translation, the next owner 🤞will fund it.

Well, so much for my theory. So NFL.com has Hudson pictured saying it is Payne. That site really needs some work.

Per Keim:

Would not surprise me if Heinicke is next, but not sure if he'll want to test the market or not.
