Al Saunders Press Conference

Wow, I am so impressed with the organization that Joe Gibbs, and Dan Snyder are building. After listening to Gibbs, and Saunders today I can't imagine a free agent not wanting to come to DC to play. I also think that Saunders put an end to any specalation that Ramsey might stay. When he was asked about the Personel on the team he talked about Brunell have his best year and a first round draft pick with a lot of tools, no mention of Ramsey at all. I think that is very telling. I am really looking forward to March first to see who we add to this team.

Well it could be damage control, but A. Saunders was on NFL coach speak right after the presser and he praised Ramsey up and down and said he had the luxery of having two #! QB's in him and Brunell .... said he followed out of college and was interested in getting him??

I started to watch it late and i didn't want to miss the beginning so i stopped watching and will wait until they post it up on Redskins.com It went on a long time right? I started to watch at like 2:50 and it started at 2. Is it still going on??

Actually I think Gibbs said "Associate Head Coach for Offense".

Wilbon had some intersting thoughts about the whole thing, both in his article and on the Redskins' Sunday show, that we might have too many chefs in the kitchen.

I was wondering does anyone else feel the same way?

I think Gibbs has shown his real strength is in personell management and leading. He won't let this become a "too many cooks in the kitchen" deal. That thought isn't lost on him. Let's be honest. Even the most diehard Gibbs supporters(me included) recognized that the offense probably had some fundamental issues that they were failing to overcome. They have had the same offensive coaches for two years but weren't able to get over the hump. I doubt seriously if Gibbs looked at the situation and didn't realize that while bringing in someone like Saunders would help it would also marginalize some of his guys. The move was made because it was best for the Skins and if some coaches feelings are hurt because they get less input than before then that is just the way it is. Gibbs isn't going to let it become a free for all with no singular concrete direction or philosophy.

I pretty much felt the same, not quite as articulate, however.

But there are some, even locally, starting to make light of us having the largest coaching staff in the NFL and how this could be counter-productive, especially if Saunders doesn't enlist some of his lieutenants from KC.

People always bag on the Skins. I don't know if it is because we are fans and focus on the negativity that we feel this way or what. Maybe fans of other teams feel similarly about their team. I don't know. I do know that it seems no matter what the Skins do there are always a significant group of media types, former players, league personell who seem to always find or create negative points to raise when the Skins do something. I really think if Andy Reid pulls a move like going out and getting the two best coordinators he can find and paying them top dollar to do their magic for his team that everyone would hail him as a genius. Not a nary would be said about "too many cooks in the kitchen". People hate the Skins for some reason so I have grown to expect it. Imagine if we had won the SB this year. I can guarantee that one of the more major sentiments we would hear would be something along the lines of "the worst SB winning team ever". It has become comically obvious that these feelings exist. When the leading internet NFL insider for the leading sports broadcasting company in the world says things like "You'll never win a SB with this coach" or "I hate you f%^&ers" it shows just how bad it has gotten.

That's so funny how that would have most definitely been ESPN's thing had we won the Super Bowl. "The worst team ever to win a Super Bowl." I could hear it now.

As long as we can put together 11 or so wins next year, I could really care less. One positive that came from the Seattle loss is that the team can feel like at least they bowed out the eventual NFC champs.

Every fan feels that their team is getting no respect. Why just the other day some Seahawk fans I know were talking about how the media hates their team and how they don't get good press.

You need to win before you get any positive reviews. Skins deserve to be ragged on IMO simply because of the horrible moves prior to Gibbs coming back.

And honestly Saunders doesn't come without knowing he is going to get the autonomy he had in KC. He could get a HC if he went hard for it in Oakland. He isn't taking a thankless subserviant role here. he is gonna be the offense pilot here and he knows it.
