2 possible db's in draft

Antonio Cromartie of Florida State, and Anwar Phillips of Penn State are two quality corners that will most likely be avaible when our 2nd round pick comes along. Cromartie was regarded as one of the best corners prior to the season last year, but suffered a season ending injury early on. Which might drop him into the 2nd round and into our hands. He showed great signs at his pro day clocking 4.37 and 4.39 40's, and had a 42inch vert. He is very big for a corner too, which I like, he's 6'2 203lbs. Phillips is rather smaller at 5'11 190lbs. He ran a 4.59 40 and had a 36inch vert. And his performance in the Orange Bowl against FSU was outstanding, shutting down 6'6 freshman wideout Greg Carr. I think both of them can have a great impact on aiding our secondary.

anwar is too slow, stopping a 6'6" WR that sucks is no big deal. cromartie is good, either he or jonathan joseph may be there for our pick, but maybe not.

Re: 2 possible db's in draft

anwar is not to slow. his football speed is faster then is forty. he is a better football player than joseph jsut not as fast. ask any gamecocks fan about that, most are glad he is gone. if you watched any PSU games or even the senior bowl you will see that he is a very solid CB. he could definatly play nickle and maybe be a 2 in a few years. i really like richard marshall from fresno state, will blackmon from boston college, and kelly jennings from miami. jennings could be gone by the time we pick in the second but blackmon and marshall should still be around. hopefully the team will try to move all of our 6th and 7th rounders and get another 5 or 4th

Sorry bud, but Greg Carr doesn't suck, he had nine td's as a freshman in the one of the toughest conference in college football.

maybe you should recheck his gamelogs... he got 2 TDs vs citedal and 3 vs duke.. 5 tds and 33% of his yardage came against two terriblely terrible teams. he alsso had 130 and 1 td vs wake forest. so he was only good vs teams that were 4-7 or 1-10. outide of them he was NOTHING special in any way. he also put up to 0fers.

Carrs numbers are similar to those of two highly recruited prospects, Chad Jackson and Santonio Holmes. And Carr led the ACC in td's, a conference that has Sinorice Moss, and Calvin Johnson.

G YDS YDS/G TD
Chad Jackson 12 900 75 9
Santonio Holmes 12 977 81.4 11
Greg Carr 9 618 68.7 9
*notice the three more games they have as well.

and Holmes had 2tds vs Minn, 2tds vs Ill, 1td vs Ind, 5 out of 11 in bottom of Big Ten, and 1td vs Miami(OH).
and Jackson had 3tds vs Wyoming, 1td vs Louis, tech, 1td vs Vandy, and 1td vs SC, average SEC teams.

Though he may have only started 9 games, the official ncaa stat database on him says he played in 11 games (recording a tackle in one game where he had 0 catches and getting 0 in another game as well).
http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/playerDet...=234&player=89

minn was a winning team and holmes had 124yds and 1 td vs ND and 73 and a TD vs texas. carr only had 3 good games andd they were ALL against terrible teams. holmes didn't go shrinking violet any time someone good came to play.

jackson is going high mainly on his 40 time, but he was more consistant last year and those average SEC teams are much more impressive than wailing on a 1 and 10 last place duke team.

Re: 2 possible db's in draft

seriously, when someone tells me every player from their school is absolutely amazing, it doesn't really help persuade.

blackmon's technique was really bad in the senoir bowl too, and he's at best a mid 3rd rounder right now.

i said anwar is a better football player than JJ but doesn't have the same kind of speed so everyone from PSU is absolutely amazing? zemaitis will be ok if he moves to saftey but he is not a cb i've said it all year, hali will be a good de not great like some are hyping him, lowery should be a solid saftey, and robinson won't do anything unless he doesn't play qb. so how absolutely amazing am i making these players sound? and if you want to look at the stats of phillips and joseph think about how many times sec teams pass compared to big ten teams.

What are the chances anyone has seen the players on their team more than the fans of the team itself? If you're looking for an honest assessment of the skills of a player, who better to ask than the people who watched every single game that player has played in?

By your reasoning, anything you had to say about Fred Smoot should be completely discounted by, let's say, the Vikings fans when they were looking to pick him up off of free agency? Does that make sense? Wouldn't you know more about Smoot's strengths and weaknesses than a Seahawks fan or a Bears fan?

By way of another example, maybe the Panthers should have paid more attention to our "biased" opinion of Rod Gardner.

way to misread the post. there are certain guys called "homers" and listening to them is a bad idea cause they generally think everything is great. sometimes its hard to tell whos who when i see PSU in the name and PSU players are always the first (and sometimes the only) people that are brought up. sorry.

Um, huh? The other PSU fan on here brought up three other non-psu names.....not just a Penn State player. I also didn't see him saying that "everything is great" with all PSU players.....or even with Anwar Phillips for that matter. He recognized that Anwar would make a good nickel CB or eventually a solid #2 CB. How is that raving about how great Anwar is? Looks to me more like a reasonable analysis of his ability based on first-hand observations made while watching the player in action. So who is really the one misreading posts here?
