taylors lawyer refuses plea bargain

im going to start a new thread on sean taylor to get serious ideas and perspectives if hes really going to be back next year or not. ..............i just heard on fox 5 news that the plea bargain was denied by taylors lawyers......it was said that he was supposed to admit to a felony and taylors lawyers refused.

I think his team is stupid for not taking it, letting ego get in the way. With that said, I'm now 99.9% sure he will be back next year.

I don't think that you spend that type of money on that legal team and they allow you to let ego drive your decisions.

What I have read about the case and who are the men that he did this to. I have to say that he may not do time. These man have a long history of this kind of crime and I am starting to believe Taylor was protecting himself. But that is just what I believe and what I read so far in the case.

I meant the lawyer's ego's, not ST's. They want to win the case. As far as ST's football career goes, he had the sure thing, and he turned it down, presumably because they believe they are going to win.

GTripp, but if ST (and his crew of lawyers) took the plea, they would be admitting to a felony. A felony is BAD news!!! Here's the definition from West's Business Law textbook: "A crime that carries the most severe sanctions, usually ranging from one year in a state or federal prison to the forfeiture of one's life." Neither ST, his lawyers, nor anyone in Redskin's nation wants to see ST behind bars and away from the playing field.

What ST, and his legal team, are waiting on is a trial for a chance to either get all charges dropped (which I pray for every night), or get a lesser charge of a misdemeanor, which is defined as, "A lesser crime than a felony, punishable by a fine or imprisonment for up to one year in other than a state or federal penitentiary." Which means that the jail sentence, should there be one, could be moved to a time outside of the NFL season.

Well, you are right. If ST is truely innocent, he did the right thing. I'm just saying if he's trying to get off on reasonable doubt (if he actually did it), then he made a mistake, because the plea bargain was for probation instead of a jail sentence.

God willing, he wins and is aquitted on all charges.

The plea offer was for probation but he had to plea to a felony. They said no. Looks like they are confident they can win.

I think it says a lot about his character (which needs speaking for) and the confidence of his defense team not to take the bait. In all reality, if you are innocent, you have to believe that the system works.

Nothing I have read says this and the cynic in me is suspecting it is lawyerspeak.

Yeah the plea bargain for the no jail time but a felony conviction may not hurt him that bad as long as he is in football, but is looked at poorly if he goes for other employment if he got hurt in football or the end of his career. He would never get a security clearance or probably ever any position that you have to be of a trustworthy nature or great accountability. Though it seems he is foolish with no jail/prison time and the assurance that he can play this year which is most fans motivation or preference it could still hold serious implications for his future.

A felony follows you for life. One should never ever accept any changes beyond a misdemeanor, and even that should be avoided at all cost.

Umm...not so sure that a felony conviction would keep him from getting a job of trustworthy nature or great accountability. Maybe not a security clearance. In fact, many police agencies accross the country are so hard up for help they are "re-visiting" their hiring practices.

Well, I can speak from my own personal experience that this isn't necessarily true.

Yeah they always say take the fine and the misdemeanor, rather than the felony. But if he did take the felony charge, what would have happened? He would still play for the Skins right? However, I guess it says something about the weakness of the case if they can get a plea bargin down from 46 yrs to only a felony with no jail time. One more week lets see what happens.

I agree...

If he was guilty, he wouldn't accepted this as a lesser punishment. I think the fact that he's not settling for this just to get out of the courtroom is an indication that he believes he's innocent. I think ParkerGibbs made a great point about having faith in the system if you know you're not guilty of the charges.

One thing I may think Taylor is guilty of would be hanging out with the wrong people. He DOES have a certain image that is often associated with criminals and by associating with people with that same image, he found himself amongst people that are going to get him in trouble or try to take advantage of his salary and status.

That's my take on it. I believe he'll be found innocent, but I hope he takes this as a life lesson and thinks a little more before he acts in the future.
