What to do with #53 overall

I am a bit of a dumbass so correct me if I am wrong. I believe that we will take a CB, but I just don't know who.

i say inside or outside linebacker. we need a starter there. I think i'm not the only person who thinks warrick holdman shouldn't be a starter. I'm willing to give him a second chance though, to prove that last season was a fluke, If it wasn't, then we seriously need to cut him.

If Holdman isn't a starter then Clemmons is. Remember Antonio Pierce. These LB's arent being kept around for nothing. One of them will emerge as the starter. Our defense did just fine with Holdman starting. I believe that depth at corner is more important than a possible backup at LB.

I say inside because of this: any LB we have can play outside, but only lemar can play inside, so we need depth there.

marcus washington can play inside. If we take an ILB, it'll only be one that can play OLB as well. We can get a starter and we should get a starter. No ILB i going to learn all the calls for the defense and gain enough experience to be trusted there in a couple preseason games.

Re: What to do with #53 overall

i think it depends on who's available. If there's an outside linebacker available, like rocky macintosh, then i'd think the redskins take him because he's suited to be an olb. If there's an inside backer available like abdul hodge or d'qwell jackson, then the skins should take them because we can just move lemar back to the outside.

@angryssg: i realize what g.w. did with a.p. and lemar marshall. Both of them were considered backups before he came along. Now they are damn good starters. That's why i'd rather see Clemons as starter than Holdman. Holdman had a shot at being a good starter last year, but he wasn't. Clemons on the other hand, is unproven. It's his third season in the league, third under G.W. as well, and i think we should give him a chance, if we don't take a linebacker in the draft. And i do remember several plays that Holdman was responsible for last year. The one that comes to mind was Tatum Bell's first td run in our game against the broncs.

I doubt very seriously that any of those LB's will be available during that part of the draft. Particularly D'Quell. Those guys are going to go in the late first early second. We pick late second.

I know its a longshot, but if we get D'Qwell I will do the Dance of Joy (a la Balki from Perfect Strangers). I think he would be amazing for us...

you know, your probably right on that one, i too expect them to be late 1st, early 2nd rounders. But they aren't the only ones available. This draft is linebacker heavy, i don't think we'd have a lot of trouble picking a good one off the board.

Re: What to do with #53 overall

Am I crazy to think that this whole shake-up at the top might end up helping us? It seems like everyone was planning with Bush going as the obvious #1 up until very recently. Now some teams might be scrambling because they have more options. In my opinion, the Saints had a couple ways they could go before. I'm not expecting any miracles, but I think this could cause a player of greater quality to drop to us than before. I still don't have any idea what player that may be, or what position they'd play though.

It could and it counldn't. Remember that teams have their own views and values for certain players. So it may not have much effect on us because Bush will still go in the top five. Everyone else according to draft boards will follow. It would take several suprises to actually effect us late int the second round.

Re: What to do with #53 overall

There are some mock drafts got us picking Leonard Pope... now even with our pickup of a te i dont think this is a bad pick. Then teams would have to fear our long ball and our short ball, plus the run.
