Strengths: Possesses good size and flashes the ability to hold ground when teams run at him. Uses hands fairly well and flashes the ability to shed blocks quickly. Is tall, has long arms and can get hands up in passing windows. Lost a considerable amount of weight during 2005 off-season and had strong senior season.

Weaknesses: Montgomery's potential is limited by his lack of explosiveness. Doesn't have very a quick first step and isn't going to make a lot of plays in the backfield. Lacks ideal upper body strength, doesn't deliver a violent punch and has problems maintaining separation from blockers. Doesn't have great range and isn't going to make many plays in pursuit. Lacks closing speed and doesn't show a variety of pass rush moves.

Overall: Montgomery has the size and athletic ability to develop into an adequate backup but he offers little as a pass rusher and needs to get stronger as a run defender.
