Sportsline Power Rankings
http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/7340580
I know we shouldn't be putting much stock in these pre-preseason rankings but I just don't get how the Cowboys with admitted question marks Carter and Jones in the backfield are #11 while the Skins are #20.

I'd probably put us around #20 as well. Every offseason we say we should be in the top half (at least) of the pre-season power rankings. While I wish I could agree, I can't. We were the 5th worst team in the league and that they've spotted us 7 spots (which is a hell of a lot) says that they recognize that we've improved, but we have a lot to prove.
Portis and Gibbs are great additions, but so were Coles, Thomas, and Hall (who won us a few) last year. Plus, we lost Champ Bailey. We could easily be a top 10 team this year (I say we go 9-7 and miss the playoffs due to the Cowboys and Vikings getting wildcards and because our Dline still stinks), but putting us at #20 is fairly realistic given our performance the past five years despite consistently improving our roster each offseason. |

The Cowboys made the playoffs last season and they have one of the best defenses in the league. The Redskins have proven nothing but I'm optimistic they'll start to turn it around this year.

Off-season power rankings mean absolutely nothing. They are purely speculative (and usually mostly based on the previous year, regardless of what changes are made). Remember last year? Everyone had the Bucs and Raiders at the top, and look what happened.....

Offseason ratings are meaningless, who knows how Julius Jones will pan out although the Cowboys obviously think he's a stud. Training camp hasn't even started, so I'll wait until we at least drop a preseason game or two before I go into full fledged panic mode.

Like someone already said, these rankings are mostly based on last season and rightfully so. Until the teams actually take the field how can you really judge anyone just yet?

Well we should be ranked at the bottom what have we proved these past years, when we were good on paper? Nothing. I think (hope) this will be different, but we have to prove ourselves first. Then when we do far better than 20th we can show them that once again all the ranking stuff is bs.

Once again, I am always happy to see us underrated at this point. These things mean basically nothing, but the more people overlook us, the better. Strangely, lots of folks around the league don't realize Joe Gibbs is God. Good. Let them find out on the football field.

this league is all about injuries. The teams that rise and fall have a lot to do with woh on their team is healty. At this point we are almost better off startign a thread to guess who will get injured. Ill start my saying Ray Lewis.

When it comes to the 'Skins, most analysts simply ignore our off-season acquisitions.
As one commentator said, the 'Skins win the off-season every year - so I agree with the common logic in this thread, that this placement sounds about right. There's only one way to turn around the skepticism and that is to show that we actually can win a few games. |

LOL JW Sleep! I agree with you 100%. Let's let em learn the hard way!
And I guess the Cowboys should be ranked ahead of us b/c of their D based on last year. I think we can be just as good, however. I don't see that much of a dropoff purely b/c of losing Champ, and I like the additions we've made at LB and at Corner- plus I think we can win alot of games if our D line can just be good, not great. I guess I'm always overoptimistic, but if Griffin can turn out to be a solid D lineman for us, and Williams schemes can help generate enough pressure, I think our D can be better than Dallas'. We now have a safety as good as theirs, and our corners and backers are better than theirs.... |
