"Kellen Winslow Jr. is reportedly willing to pay between $25,000 and $35,000 for teammate Aaron Shea's No. 80 jersey, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. It is believed that Winslow can earn that money back through endorsements."

Do you think that Coles would have sold his number to the rook for that amount? I would guess no.

I thank Gibbs and God for not signing Winslow. I'd rather sign his father.

Nothing wrong with buying a number if someone's willing to sell. I love how the general consensus is Winslow is a selfish asshole. But Portis deserves to have his number!

I understand being attached to a number, and if you can pay 25,000 (which is practically chump change for him once he gets that huge contract) why not. It could mean a lot to you later on.

I'm sure KWII knows the difference between Aaron Shea and Laverneous Coles. $35,000 is big money for someone who didn't just get a $14 million bonus.

Personally I don't think that Portis deserves anything. Iffy is the vet, so #26 is his. If he doesn't want to give it up he doesn't have to.

If they were insane enough to let me play I'd take any letter of the alphabet, never mind a number. That whole number thing is weird to me, it means nothing if you're on a new team. Portis was 26 with the Donkeys, he'll be our number 'whatever'.

I don't want to come across as a pro athlete apologist, but I can understand these guys having attachments to numbers.. KWII (while I am glad he's not a Redskin) I would assume wants #80 in honor of his father wearing it in the NFL.. A lot of these guys have worn their numbers for years for reasons unbeknowst to us and if they are willing to fork over thousands of dollars for it then I am not going to judge them for that.. Now as for
Portis

Ohalete, I'm not in favor of 'since I'm better I deserve it' type of thing, but if one of them has a sentimental reason for having it I would hope the other player would respect it.

I can understand the sentimental thing too, but I also agree that the number stays with the veteran unless he decides to give it up, regardless of if he is a star or a back-up. Perhaps someone like SkinsnCanes can confirm this, but didn't Portis wear #28 at Miami? That means he only had #26 for 2 years, which IMO isn't long enough to be sentimental, and obviously #28 for the Skins is off limits....so just pick a new number, dammit!

On Friday, May 21st, Gainesville High School is officially retiring Clintons jersey. Clinton proudly wore #4 while a member of The Gainesville High School Football Team.

Clinton was a USA Today Honorable Mention All-American at Gainesville (Fla.) High School. He was named the No. 10 running back in the SEC Region by PrepStar; was Florida's #4 tailback on the Florida Times-Union Super 75; was rated the 39th best player on the Tampa Tribune Florida top 50; was a Tampa Tribune Blue Chip selection; a Super Prep All-SEC Region Honorable Mention and No. 27 player in Florida, as well as first-team all-state, all-region and all-area selection.

A three-year starter, Clinton was the Gainesville Sun Player of the Year and set a school record rushing for 2,036 yds. as a senior. He averaged 8.0 yds. per carry and scored 26 touchdowns, and also saw action at defensive back where he had 79 tackles, three sacks and two interceptions.

Can you beleive that shit, 8 yards per carry in highschool. You guys know he ran a 4.29 40 at his proday workout before the draft. People say you drop in teh draft if you arent as fast, yet he was the fastest one. Im soooo glad to have him on our team, the man is going to rip it up next year
