T.J. Duckett?

Redskins | Team has interest in Duckett
Mon, 21 Aug 2006 19:28:54 -0700

Steve Wyche, of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports the Washington Redskins have an interest in Atlanta Falcons RB T.J. Duckett. The team is one of four that have contracted the Falcons about Duckett's availability.

Re: T.J. Duckett?

Much more interesting rumor than Stephen Davis. I guess Rock would be out of a job.

I wonder if the team is concerned about Portis, or if they aren't confident in being able to lock up Betts long-term.

Re: T.J. Duckett?

I've heard Patten is the trade bait for this, since the Falcons need a WR. I don't know how legit this rumor is.

I think, as has been mentioned here on this site before, we should seriously think about making Mike Sellers the "goal line power back." I don't think Betts is a bad back, but I think he's mislabeled as a power back.

Re: T.J. Duckett?

maybe they are looking into the long term, but what kind of $ would Duckett want vs. trying to hold on to Betts? How are the two compared? Run style, durability, signing bonus and contract terms?

Duckett isn't worthless and swapping him for Patten probably makes us better but I think Sellers can handle the duty if necessary. I am hoping this has nothing to do with Portis. Please!

Re: T.J. Duckett?

Duckett has made it no secret that he wants to be a featured back. I mean who doesn't, but if this is just a one year rent we don't need that.

Re: T.J. Duckett?

Maybe we just want the best running tandem in the NFL. We are gearing for a superbowl run anything else would be a failure. We would prob trade Betts and a pick for TJ

Re: T.J. Duckett?

I highly doubt that we are going to get rid of Betts, Patten maybe, but not Betts...

Re: T.J. Duckett?

Maybe so, but after hearing all of the things that Saunders was saying about Betts, and why not do the deal before training camp if we were looking to get rid of Betts?

Re: T.J. Duckett?

I'd much rather see the Skins develop Sellers into the short-yardage/goalline guy than overspend on Duckett. Sellers is more than capable of doing the job, and he won't grumble about not being the featured back, which could be a problem with Duckett. I think the current runningback group of Portis as featured back, Betts as relief back, and Sellers as fullback/jumbo-back will be effective. They just need to give Sellers a shot.

Re: T.J. Duckett?

sellers has been begging gibbs to be used as a running back for over two years now. last year he finally got a carry (the ugliest 1yard TD run i've seen, but it worked). in the pre-season game he looked REALLY good, and i wouldn't be opposed to seeing him try it a bit more.

Re: T.J. Duckett?

Hello that guy, I agree I would rather have us use Sellers as opposed to spending money on someone else when Sellers is more than capable to do the job...
