49ers leaving San Fran?

ESPN.com - NFL - 49ers to leave Candlestick, turn focus to Santa Clara

Interesting.

Re: 49ers leaving San Fran?

So they'll be known as the San Francisco 49ers of Santa Clara?

Stupid MLB Angels team...

Re: 49ers leaving San Fran?

The name is staying the same and the new stadium negotiations are finally moving in the right directions. Good news to me...

Yeah Santa Clara is only 30 minutes away from SF.

The Giants and Jets play in Jersey

The Cowboys play in Irving and will play in Arlington soon, even further away from Dallas

You guys play in Maryland

The Cards play in Glendale (and play in University of Phoenix Stadium, saying it because it makes me laugh)

Pretty normal these days.

Re: 49ers leaving San Fran?

i wonder why the folks in S.F. built the giants a new stadium before building the niners one?i hate the niners, always have.but
i can't think of another team in the league that deserves a new stadium, especially when you look at how big the 49er fan base seems to be.i also think that 49ers fans are almost as crazy about them,as we are for the skins.they deserve a new stadium for that in itself!

Re: 49ers leaving San Fran?

The city couldn't agree on the plans with the owner, Dr. York who wants the stadium to be one of the league's largest and best, the new generation of stadiums that the Cardinals and soon the Cowboys will have. The blame falls on the city officials and the geographic difficulties of building a stadium in SF.

So York went to the Mayor of Santa Clara who's mouth is watering to get a storied franchise like the 49ers to play in his city. Negotiations will move a lot faster now and I think the target date for a new stadium to be completed is by the start of the 2012 season. Also it should be more convenient for the organization because Santa Clara is where the franchise headquarters are located.

If san fran was the dominate team they once were this wouldnt even be an issue...they would get their stadium without a doubt...want a new stadium then win games

Re: 49ers leaving San Fran?

Nah, sell tickets and merchandise and get a new stadium -- San Fran does both of those.

For these owners, winning means jack shit when it comes to stadium negotiations. What talks is the money that a stadium pulls in to the city and local economy. Im shocked san fran didnt work harder to keep them.

You speak the truth my friend. San Fran would rather protect the spotted owl than contribute that money to build a stadium for an iconic franchise.

Re: 49ers leaving San Fran?

kinda silly, but we all saw the DC council refuse JKC when he offered to pay the full stadium costs, so i'm not totally surprised to hear about something like this.

If winning games has so much to do with getting a new stadium then how did the freaking Cardinals get a new one? I would rethink that hypothesis if I were you...
