Young Guns (Through First Quarter of Season)
After the first four games, this is where we stand:
Week one of the 2007 NFL season opened with a few interesting story lines. One of which, was the number of second or third year quarterbacks entering opening day as the starter for the first time in their, thus far, brief NFL career. Our very own Jason Campbell was one of a few "young guns" who was among a list of notable names. In the spirit of charting Campbell's progress this season, I thought it would be nice to compare their respective stats. Also, for the sake of keeping this discussion clean, I excluded quarterbacks in their fourth NFL season as the list would then include the Big Bens and Eli's of the NFL. Although this would still make for some interesting discussion. *A.Smith and the Browns are somewhat the exception, but their QBs are in their third NFL season. If you guys see something or someone that should be added, please chime in. Jason Campbell: Washington Redskins W/L 3-1 67-113 869 yds 4TD 3 ints. QB Rating: 84.3 *Matt Leinart: Arizona Cardinals 60-112 647yds 2TD 4 ints. QB Rating: 61.1 W/L 3-2 Vince Young: Tennessee Titans 62- 100 583 yds. 3 TD 5 int. QB Rating: 67.2 W/L 3-1 *Alex Smith: San Francisco 49ers 43-84 461 yds. 1TD 1 int. QB Rating: 66.6 W/L 2-3 Jay Cutler: Denver Broncos 98-152 1,158 yds 4 TD 6 int QB Rating: 79.9 W/L 2-3 *Tavaris Jackson: Minnesota Vikings 30-56 329Yds. 1 TD 5 int QB Rating: 40.0 Anderson: Cleveland Browns 83-159 1,251 yds 11 TD 8 int QB Rating: 80.5 W/L 2-3 * haven't played due to injury |

Re: Young Guns
I think it would also be interesting to put up the W/L for each so we can track the most important stat!

Re: Young Guns
I bet I'm the only Travaris Jackson fan in the world. Well, not so much a fan but I think he can be a very solid QB for many years

Re: Young Guns
Tavaris Jackson is from my hometown Montgomery, Alabama I play against him in high school graduated the same year and everything I'm glad he is doing good he is the only player playing in the NFL from Montgomery. Fred Beasley, Reggie Barlow & Eddie Robinson aren't playing anymore well we just cut Fred. Tavaris a good player & person big props 2 T!!!

Re: Young Guns
is Travaris jackson a little undersized, i remember watching a game this year he looks solid but a little small.

Re: Young Guns
Well if you added in last years stats for both Young and JC I would think Youngs stats would be better. If not better his win/loss ratio would be better. To be honest I have heard more about JC this year than Young or maybe I just pay more attention when they are talking about skins players.

Re: Young Guns
Of all of them listed Young and Cutler get the most media love, but I think Campbell definitely stacks up with them and is a more complete QB than either.. I watched Cutler a few times and the kid has a cannon, but I don't see 'it' that Campbell has.. VY is a phenomenal athlete and will be an excellent QB but I don't see him as being accomplished as a pro QB yet.
Maybe it's a little Homerish, but I'll take him over any of the yong guns mentioned..

I don't think it's homerish at all. I think in time Campbell and Cutler could be the cream of the crop. |

Re: Young Guns
Looking at those stats I don't feel homerish at all saying I would take Jason over Cutler, Young or any of the lot. Campbell just seems to have that presence and leadership that a QB needs to have.
