Are We Being Too Hard on Brandon Lloyd?
I thought maybe this deserved its own thread. Given the state of flux with our QB situation over the past two years and with JC still getting comfortable with everything, are we being a little too hard on Brandon Lloyd?
He didn't produce last year, we saw nothing to speak of during a pre-season, and he was largely absent in the season opener. Also, it looks like ARE has pretty much sealed the deal as our number two. By all accounts, he came into camp with a great attitude and was in shape. But when should we say enougth is enough with this kid? I mean, if he was getting James Thrash type money, this wouldn't even be thread worthy, but 30MM? |

Re: Are We Being Too Hard on Brandon. Lloyd?
We have to keep him this year for money reasons. He needs to take that opportunity to make himself indispensable or he'll be gone next year. The reason they brought him on was to make catches like the one that was intercepted Sunday. He has the ability to go up and get that ball. He needs to start making plays with the limited opportunities that he is now likely to get as the 4th or 5th receiver.

B Lloyd has been in the dog house ever since he threw a hissy fit and got benched by Gibbs and even deactivated at the end of last season.
The writting has been on the wall for some time now.

Re: Are We Being Too Hard on Brandon Lloyd?
I for one, think we are being FAR too hard on him. He's under an EXTRA critical eye because of what happened last year.
Let's all ALSO remember that last year there wasn't a single receiver who did well, PERIOD. People are too concerned with regurgitating all the "drops" he had last year. If he had so many drops, I'd LOVE to know what games because in my recollection he caught EVERYTHING thrown his way. He's starting to get the "Carlos Rogers" treatment where everyone just assumes he's bad because someone else said it.

Re: Are We Being Too Hard on Brandon. Lloyd?
yea i dont know what to think about brandon anymore. in someway im still waiting for him to have that one great game to break the ice, for some reason i think this guy could be pretty damn good and also from the game on Sunday i dont recall JC throwing to him more than once or twice, just like he did with cooley, so i dont know. i think in about 2 or 3 more games we should have our answer on mr Lloyd.

He hasn't done much to prove us wrong that's for sure. And his half-hearted effort on that INT on Sunday didn't help his case either.

Re: Are We Being Too Hard on Brandon Lloyd?
When you talk about half-hearted, are you talking about the jump or going after the DB after he intercepted it?

Re: Are We Being Too Hard on Brandon Lloyd?
From what I've heard, what has frustrated the coaches most is that he has little to no grasp of the playbook. Apparently, and I don't know how you can tell unless you know the playbook nor how much it really matters if he indeed is getting open, he improvises a lot of his routes because he doesn't know which are the right routes to run.

OK 12th it sounds like you want to start a thread to bash Lloyd. You started the thread hinting at what he has done wrong then you have the 2nd post throwing it out that he may have caused the 2nd interception of JC.

Re: Are We Being Too Hard on Brandon Lloyd?
Yeah, TMC, for the sake of arguement I'm willing to give a pass on last year. That said, if you look at last Sunday... where was our ocho cinco? I'm not going to pull the stats but I remember ONE catch for 5 yards. Like Matty said, that int was every bit as much BL's fault as Campbell's. The money doesn't even bother me in this scenario. I'm more pissed that we may have missed out on opportunities to look at other wr's because we targeted him.

Re: Are We Being Too Hard on Brandon Lloyd?
Too hard? Perhaps. I think the jury is still out on this guy.
It is still too early to determine what sort of impact he will have on our offense THIS year. You could compare his contributions to Cooley's so far this year and I don't think that is a fair assessment. We all know Cooley will contribute. I say give him a few more weeks and see what happens, then we'll be able to tell if we're being "Too Hard" on Brandon Lloyd. |

Re: Are We Being Too Hard on Brandon Lloyd?
We don't get a chance to see the behind the scenes stuff. I would venture to guess it's not like Lloyd came back this year and offered to play special teams and do whatever it takes to rebuild his image into a team player. He doesn't produce period. If he was not a cap killer they obviously would cut him.... any team would. If his strength is stretching a defense why are his two signature deep plays dropping a bomb from Campbell on his first NFL pass and a half assed effort against Miami. Heart of glass player it would seem. Very sad because we needed another deep threat to really throw teams off balance.
