Why Snyder should take his time
Great column by Jason Cole on Dan and his lack of patience.
I agree more than ever that Dan stays in house with his next choice. We have two good candidates who can take over the helm with a smooth transition and little upheaval. 'Skins owner should avoid hiring Cowher - NFL - Yahoo! Sports |

Re: Why Snyder should take his time
I think that we have one, and only one, in-house candidate: Gregg Williams. I see Al Saunders as the mad scientist O-coordinator that has had little exposure to the local press since coming here. It makes complete sense to keep both, but Snyder should take his time, speak to Williams and Saunders to make sure that both are on the same page, and that they can work well together without Gibbs there as a buffer.

Re: Why Snyder should take his time
I cannot believe that Joe and Danny have not had (and will have more) tedious discussion regarding the new coach issue.
I know Joe says it's is Danny's deal, but he is just trying to make the Dan look good. I would be shocked if it is not already decided. Not to worry.... AND the Dan has learned many lessons over the years. he'll do the right thing

Re: Why Snyder should take his time
I agree it has allready been decided but they have to wait until they interview a Black coach because of that new rule. With that new rule they cannot say that they have allready decided because it would be against that rule.

Re: Why Snyder should take his time
The new coach has to be in place a couple of weeks before the start of the free agency period. I know the Skins don't plan to make a lot of FA moves, but the new coach will want to make a couple.

Re: Why Snyder should take his time
If you want to keep the team intact and make a run for the SB next year hire GW. I you want to go back in time and destroy the team hire Cowher. Dan Snyder needs to do his best Joe Gibbs imitation and keep this team together by hiring GW.

Re: Why Snyder should take his time
After listening to Gibbs in an interview on comcast last night, and after reading JLC's blog about Snyder's opinion of GW, I got the sense that the Danny would rather not hire GW. I hate to say it, but some signals seem to indicate it.
Gibbs was asked if GW should take over & he said it was Dan's decision. He then talked about how an owner & a coach have to be "comfortable" with one another & go through a lot. I wonder if the Danny & Grilliams clash a bit too much. Remember, this is a hands on owner, not a guy that will sign the check & just have a mtg. w/the coach every once in a while. He's deeply involved in player acquisition & does all negotiations w/agents. If he personally doesn't like GW, then it's not likely to flow very well. I hope that isn't the case, but I am worried that it is. |

Sure, while we're at it why not steal away Parcells from Miami and make him our defensive coordinator?

Re: Why Snyder should take his time
In a perfect world sure, but Cowher would never in a million years go back to being a coordinator after compiling his hall of fame resume. He's a steelers guy, and to lure him from that thought process, a coordinator position isn't going to do it. He's a head coach.

Re: Why Snyder should take his time
I understand that Dan is keeping Joe on as an "advisor" so maybe he can get in his ear and get him to make the decision based on the best guy to continue where Joe left off and not another opportunity to spend a gazillion on a "big name" coach. I don't want to see another Spurrier debacle nor have to start from the ground up again. Sign Willams to a 2-3 year deal and lets see what he can do.
And PLEASE.... no Pete Carroll!!! I have heard his name mentioned as well. |

Re: Why Snyder should take his time
I agree...Spurrier never learned how to adjust (never wanted to if you ask me), but Carroll has adjusted in the past, and could again.

Re: Why Snyder should take his time
You guys simply do not realize that with Cower comes 3-4 defense, and most likely new defensive coaches. GW isn't gonna want to to sit around if Cower comes, then it's his time to part ways and shine somewhere else in the NFL.
There is no way Cower will come as head coach, and not even touch the defense or offense. What would be the point/motivation for him to coach then? Cower will obviously want some kind of influence and that starts with the defense. Also most people think Cower is some kind of God, but it did take what over a decade along with a patience owner to win a SuperBowl. I don't think we have either.
