Rumors: Big Name Coaches

"Big Name" Coaches - Redskins Insider

"There are all kind of rumors and speculation going around about the Redskins pursuing a name coach and shocking everyone with their choice. Could be. With Dan Snyder running the show you never say never."

JLC is picking up a bit of a scent that Snyder may be trying to do something big. *Sigh*

But who the heck could we be pursuing who would qualify as a big name? JLC says Cowher's still not interested. Same with Pete Carroll (if he's even a big name). People thought about Vermeil, but Jason Reid touched base with him and it's not true. Then JLC thought about Jimmy Johnson. He's retired, and probably wants to stay retired.

Who else? I can't think of any other big names. John Madden? But that's equally laughable.

Whatever, I think this is all an overblown crock of crap, but figured I'd pass it on.

Re: Rumors: Big Name Coaches

Mike Ditka is a big name coach without a coaching job at the moment...

Same with Barry Switzer...

BTW, they both won Super Bowl rings.

Dennis Green is still out there.

Maybe the Walrus wants to call it a day in Seattle and collect some big time green stuff here in DC?

Maybe he'll hire Sonny and Sam as co-head coaches?

Who knows what evil lurks in the mind of Danny Boy? The Shadow knows...

Re: Rumors: Big Name Coaches

The WashTimes says the mystery candidate has been interviewed twice. Apparently he is an NFL assistant. Why the big secret, and who is he?

Early on JLC was all hot saying Cowher then he changed his tune to Schwartz then Mora and finally GW. I'm losing my faith in him or he's got so bad connections, maybe he needs to hire Justin Farga's dad (the one and only HUGGYBEAR). Adam Shefter is the same, Garrett going to Baltimore, blah, blah, blah. I like the way people like Garrett, are making this NFL insiders look like fools. I say GW is still the man, anything else by Snyder would be a screw up as far as continuity goes. This NFL insider/experts are like the paparazzi chasing Britney "trailer trash" Spears around.

Re: Rumors: Big Name Coaches

I was glad Mora pulled out. I don't trust Snyder to make a solid decision here. We can't afford to take another step backwards. Turner, Robiskie, Shottenheimer, Spurrier, Gibbs. Too many coaches in too short a time and his previous picks Shottenheimer and Spurrier were dubious at best. I wish Gibbs would have stayed as president and made this decision for Snyder. It would have been madeby now.

Funny that you named him twice, and his name has been rumored as the mystery man on HailRedskins.com forum.

LDS played it close to the vest the last three hires, and the reveal was not the rumored to be coach every time!

In addition, it has been stated often, that LDS wants an experienced former HC.

In addition, it has been rumored that Schottenheimer and LDS regretted their initial breakup.

In addition, the B&G were better off during the short year under Marty, than the following year under OBC.

No one that I know really wanted to see Marty gone after that one single year, either.

No one would question Marty's NFL coaching record with da-bolts, only his continued shortcomings in the Division championship. How soon we forget that da-bolts were right there in Foxboro two years ago, playing in the championship game, and had a dominating team last year as well.

Further, with Schotty, count on Cam Cameron coming in as OC.

Re: Rumors: Big Name Coaches

I don't like the sound of any of this because all of it seems plausible.

The length of time that it's taking to decide and the excessive interviews seems as if its Snyder buying time to catch a big fish. If it is anyone but GW we'll know that Snyder hasn't changed his stripes.

This statement has been said and argued for and against a thousand time now this week.

Most appreciate that Snyder is taking his time to make sure that he picks the right guy, with the future of this franchise in mind. One (like yourself I assume) might argue that GW is the only "right guy," but none of us can say that for sure. What we know is that the players like GW and that if he were named HC this would presumably go a long way towards continuity.

However, I am sure that he and Snyder have discussed every detail of the franchise imaginable, beyond what you or I can even fathom. So there is a possibility that GW sees a future for the Redskins that doesn't jive well with Snyder's and perhaps Gibb's vision (like some have suggested he may want to do away with Saunders, and this would disrupt said continuity that he as a candidate is supposed to offer).

All and all I agree that this decision will be very telling about the maturity of Snyder. We will not be able to make that call immediately, however, and by no means can anyone claim that GW is the only decision that proves his maturity. In the end we will have to wait to see how this new coach performs to be able to make any statement about Snyder's success/failure in making this decision. And even if the coach doesn't do much, who is to say that given the circumstances he didnt make th right decision. Let me put it this way, since you are convinced that GW is the only sound decision, if GW is the next HC, but fails miserably, will Snyder have made the right choice? Who can tell?

Snyder has a difficult decision to make here. Give him credit for at least taking his time to weigh all possibilities. If he chooses Brian Billick then you can go ape shit if you want, but it may be more prudent to wait and see how things turn out. (Personally I would say to hell with prudence if Billick were hired, and would join you in going ape shit)

Re: Rumors: Big Name Coaches

This is starting to get ugly. At this rate, next years Redskins are going to be closer to "Batman and Robin" as opposed to "The Dark Knight."

Re: Rumors: Big Name Coaches

To be perfectly honest I would be all about giving Marty his due shot here. Perhaps even at the expense of GW. As much as Id like GW for continuity, he hasn't proved himself as a HC, in fact his last stint was a bit of a disaster. He has been great for us, but I think Marty would have a better chance of 1. having absolute authority and 2. bringing us to the playoffs.

I doubt Marty is a real option, but I would be excited if he were named HC. And to be fair, I would be just as excited about GW, but I would have more faith in Marty.
