Re: Brett Favre Reinstated by NFL
Well Green Bay better have a 'PLAN B', this could get even uglier than it already is if thats possible. They will have to shit or get off the pot. I see their season going down the pot before it ever gets going, Green Bay will take a mayor step backwards this season IMO.

Link:Favre will head to Green Bay, to be reinstated by NFL
Posted: 18 minutes ago Favre will head to Green Bay, to be reinstated by NFL NFL.com Wire Reports NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell called Brett Favre Sunday morning to inform him that he would be reinstated into the league. The decision will become effective at 1 p.m. ET (12 p.m. CT) on Monday, NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports. Favre will arrive in Green Bay on Sunday night and is going with the intention of being allowed to compete for the Packers' starting quarterback job, Schefter reports. Goodell made it clear on Saturday that he thought the situation had lingered long enough. "I think we have to force it," Goodell said. "I think it's come to the point where there needs to be some decisions made on behalf of the Packers, on behalf of Brett, on behalf of all the fans." Favre submitted a letter requesting reinstatement from the Packers' reserve/retired list last Tuesday, but Goodell had held off approving it in hopes that Favre and the Packers could resolve their dispute. Favre retired in March but had second thoughts about playing this season. The team had offered him a marketing agreement reportedly worth $20 million over 10 years, and he presumably would have remained retired if had accepted it. Packers coach Mike McCarthy made it clear Friday that, from the team's perspective, the agreement would have been more than a buyout to make an awkward situation go away. In fact, it had been in the works for months. He first heard about it at Favre's retirement news conference in March. "I know (Packers president and CEO) Mark Murphy talked to me about it in the past, how important it was for Brett to continue to be part of the organization after he was done playing," McCarthy said after practice Friday morning. "And frankly, it's good for Brett. Brett needs to stay a part of football, Obviously, he's a part of the Green Bay Packers." The problem is that Green Bay hasn't been eager to bring him back, with Aaron Rodgers taking over the starter's role. The Packers also don't want to release Favre, suspecting he would immediately sign with division rival Minnesota. The Packers hold Favre's rights until his current contract expires after the 2010 season. Information from the Associated Press was included in this report

Re: Brett Favre Reinstated by NFL
I just saw on ESPN that the packers are going to have a open quarterback competition. I think this is bad for the pack because Aaron Rodgers is in his contract year and if he lost his starting role he could walk at the end of the year to spurn the pack.

Re: Brett Favre Reinstated by NFL
Thats kinda wat I was thinking as well. But nobody REALLY knows how good AR is going to be and it's a little hard to take a future HOf'er and tell him he cant play for the team he's played for most of his career.

Re: Brett Favre Reinstated by NFL
Now this shit is getting flat out crazy...? WTF are they thinking in GB. Our retired Redskin safety is making these calls...? damage control?
PACKERS HIRE ARI FLEISCHER Posted by Mike Florio on August 3, 2008, 6:33 p.m. As the most bizarre story we’ve ever seen continues to get more and more bizarre, now comes word that the Packers have hired former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer as a consultant, according to Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com. Fleischer has been hired for a month. He met with the team several days ago, in a session that was supposedly scheduled before the cheese hit the fan regarding the Favre situation. The Packers would have been wise to hire Fleischer at least a month ago. And unless he has access to a time machine, it’s going to be very hard for him to undo the damage that the franchise has already done to its image and reputation with the bungling manner in which the present situation has been handled. And here’s the bottom line — if the Packers were serious about welcoming Brett Favre back and making him the starter, why would they need a former White House press secretary to do damage control? Our guess is that this latest maneuver is proof positive the vodka-fueled chess match will continue, in the hopes of making the Packers look like the good guys and casting Favre as the villain.

"PACKERS HIRE ARI FLEISCHER"
This is nuts. I'm sick of hearing about it but this is really getting entertaining in a sick, twisted sort of way. ![]()

Re: Brett Favre Reinstated by NFL
Looks like the Packers are going to trade Favre, per ESPN. They just can't agree on within or without the division.

Re: Brett Favre Reinstated by NFL
Yeah, Madden was on Sports Talk 980 talking about Favre's number and how we should just replace the number four with the number Farve accross the board... One, Two, Three, Farve... becuase he is "that important" .. ha ha..

Re: Brett Favre Reinstated by NFL
They should ask a high price from Vikes, Lions, Bears and a cheaper price from other teams.

What's lost in all of this, is the possibility that Favre could completely tank this year. There's no guarantee that he'll have a repeat season of 2007. On a side note, Favre is sucking all the sports oxgen out of the room. You hardly hear anything about the olympics or other sports news. |
