Re: 2009 Free Agents Spreadsheet

Player Value is based on a 79 scale. At a rating of 79 or higher, I rated a player worthy of starting for an NFL team. Lower than that, better suited for a backup role. All based on a few seasons of rate statistics, but also age, and then my best subjective guess at how much a system has affected a guys' value (conservative estimates, generally).

I've moved some numbers around since. For example, DeAngelo Hall is a 82 on my latest edition due to an adjustment I made for his Oakland numbers.

I'll make an updated one right before free agency opens.

Re: 2009 Free Agents Spreadsheet

I like this, good tool. Adds a lot to the site.

The tendency of course is to look at the player value numbers and point to guys who would be upgrades for us. But needless to say this does not consider a player's fit within given systems/philosophies.

Nevertheless I can't think of a better source to reference when I want to see the available free agents along with a quick measure of relative skill/value. Good stuff.

At one time the Seahawks were considering tagging Hill but after his arrest on possession of marijuana in January, Mora wants to meet with him and discuss his future. I'm pretty sure they want to sign him or tag him. Great Job GTripp, thanks for the info!

SS you're a Hill advocate and usually have some good info or at least good intuition on what's taking place behind the scenes... is you're advocacy just wishful thinking at this point or can the rest of us hope SLB will be upgraded (significantly) for '09?

Re: 2009 Free Agents Spreadsheet

By the way Suggs was tagged yesterday.
Ravens designate LB Suggs as franchise player for second time

Sproles also.
Chargers go to backup plan, put franchise tag on RB Sproles

Re: 2009 Free Agents Spreadsheet

Im just wondering, how accurate would you say your ratings are? How well do you really know these players?
I cant flat out say that these ratings are off because I havent seen all these guys play consistently...Im just saying Im skeptical about multiple ratings like OJ Atogwe who is rated as a below average player, but on paper over the last 3 years he has 16 picks (5.4 per year) 11 forced fumbles (3.7 per year) and 235 tackles (78 tackles per year).
I know everyone has different ratings on players but it kinda seems like alot of numbers were just thrown out there without much basis behind it...
Lol, I feel like a dick for saying this because I use tools like this alot and do appreciate you doing this.

Re: 2009 Free Agents Spreadsheet

(sorry for the double post)
A better way to say what I am trying to ask is how did you evaluate the numbers? What is the method behind the madness?
