My overall take-Week 2

Just in general, in order for the Redskins to play to their potential, I see these things need to happen:

1. LaVar needs to become a disruptive force. He disappears WAY too much for the impact player he's supposed to be. We need to hear his name at least 5-6 times a game for making a positive play.

2. Derrick Dockery and Lennie Friedman/Cory Raymer need to step it up. Too many times the pressure is coming from their area. Strahan was a non factor, but the Giants blew up the middle of the line. Portis is able to get to the edges and off tackle, but when he tries to run up the middle or to the left side he gets pushed back. One play yesterday, the pulling guard couldn't get around to block because Friedman AND Dockery were pushed back into the backfield.. The center position is a disaster thusfar. We can attribute at least 7 pts and 3 fumbles to the center-qb exchange. The schemes are solid, it's time to man-up.

3. Walt Harris needs to earn his keep. As the 3rd corner he is supposed to be able to come in and cover someone, I keep seeing him flail about too much.. At least Bauman made plays, maybe it's time for Ade Jimoh to get a shot..

4. Rod Gardner needs to become a professional reciever. The highlight catches are great, but you need to make the catch when you are standing still and you know you are going to get hit. The first down drop was unacceptable, as was the dropped TD. Again, if he can't do it, let's get McCants and/or Taylor in there. On a related note, why is Thrash in the game if he doesn't get any looks? Is he not open or just a decoy?

5. If Ramsey didn't throw those 3 interceptions I think that he would have become the starter because he moved the ball better than Brunell had in a game and a half. He's just better right now but makes stupid decisions (forcing the ball downfield, delay of game penalties from changing the play too much, holding the ball too long, sloppy ball handling) that need to be corrected. In the short run and long run, I think the offense would be better in his hands. If Brunell is out for a couple of weeks, hopefully Ramsey can come in and show he's capable of being the man.

6. Finally, as has been a problem seemingly forever, we need to see a consistent effort.. Other than the first drive, they came out flat as tap water. The effort just didn't seem like it was there at times.

Overall I am happy with the team despite yesterday's outcome. The defense is playing very well. Special teams are average, but they haven't really killed us yet. Portis is what we expected him to be. They dominated the Bucs and outplayed the Giants when they weren't giving the game away. In a division where the Cowboys don't look like worldbeaters and the Eagles still have holes we can compete, but people need to step up in order for them to do so.
