I was going to post this..but figured you'd want the honors

(bonus points to firstdown if he can turn this political thread into a non-political thread)

Some would argue that Specter left the Republican party a long time ago, others that it left him. Alls I know is for moderate republicans like myself, this is another sign that maybe the GOP just don't want us anymore. But can you win in 2012 without us? Because you couldn't in 2008.

I'd argue he isn't even a moderate. he isn't fiscally conservative by any stretch. nor socially. I am nto sure how exactly he still thought he was a republican.

I was going to post an opinion, but then I read the part in bold. 100% agree.

Who voted for McCain but moderates? McCain is the ultimate moderate. I didn't vote for him nor did any of the people I know. A few die hards here and there went out but most of the conservatives stayed home. It's your party not ours. If you want to see how many elections moderate Republicans can win you'll have no better example than this past one.

I think you have it the other way around? You don't actually believe the packaging and fluff that they put out about being conservative? They only put that garbage out during elections for the die hards. You can have the Republican party. It stinks!

Specter is a typical floater. He sticks his finger in the wind and sees which way the wind is blowing, no principle, no honor, just strait up political survival.

How any true conservative can align themselves with the Republican party at this time is completely beyond me. I mean other than the whole thing that we'll be completely communist by tomorrow that is.

Heard him on the Stern show a few weeks back and I had to keep reminding myself he was a Republican. He also sounded disillusioned with the Rep. party in general.

Here's a link as to his possible reasoning.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/senate/specter-to-switch-parties.html?hpid=topnews

It is true that Pennsylvania is an increasingly liberal state and they could have produced a strong moderate dem candidate. This decision is probably more about self-preservation than anything else

You know, it's kinda hard not to leave when party "leaders" are talking about not supporting you and there's some guy in your home state they're all cheering for to beat you in the primaries. RINO or not every man has his pride. The fact that recent polls show GOP self-identification around ~21% of the electorate doesn't hurt his chances either. I suspect Obama will camping for him and he will have the full support of the Democratic machine behind him. So long as he votes with the Dems he'll easily win next year.

This is awesome! I can't wait to hear what Rush Limbaugh has to say about this!

Actually I was looking up directions when I read this post so it was pretty easy. While you guys are working the next few days I'll be in sunny (well thats if we don't get smoked out) SC with 15 friends playing golf for 5 days. I get back Sunday night and Monday is my birthday and I'm going fishing for the day. Tuesday the 5th when I get back to the office I'm having new computers installed and will have to deal with that for two days.
