Trotter gone after June 1?

With our bringing Brandon Short in today, who thinks the likelier scenario than the Skins running a 3-4 occasionally is the Skins cutting Trotter after June 1? How much does he count against the cap this year and down the line? Is he worth what we will be paying him? My two cents is that he is a good but not great player who has not played up to what we have paid him-

I can see him leaving. I know he got hurt his first year and was adjusting to Marvin Lewis' system, but great players make great plays no matter what. He hasn't made any great plays, so I wouldn't be sad to see him go.

He's got a huge contract too. That money could be better spent.

I like him and think that if used correctly (blitz) then he could be an asset for the team. However if we can replace him for younger and cheaper, I don't see any reason to hesitate. He's not exactly a life long skin so I don't feel bad cutting him.

I think he can still be an excellent LB in the league if used correctly, and I think he could work well with Williams. I am curious to see what happens!

He counts $2.7 million against the cap this year (plus signing bonus)... next year is when his salary really spikes up to $4.5 mil (plus bonus). I could see him hanging around this year, but next year he's a goner for sure.

I don't think we'll be switching to the 3-4 and I don't think Trotter will be cut.

Williams likes his LB's and with Trotter, Arrington and Washington he'll have a heck of a threesome.

Was Brandon Short brought in for a visit or did he sign a contract with the Skins?
We have enough LB's, we have other greater needs. I hope we are done signing LB's.

I don't see trortter going anywhere, he's still young and he was an animal in philli we just never used him correctly you have to have him going forward all the time he will wreck havoc in opposing team's backfield's this year because you can rest assured that william's is going to turn this guy loose.

I hope you're right, offiss. I don't want to see anyone fail, but up till now he's been a bust IMO.

MattyK- if we aren't switching to a 3-4, and Trotter isn't going to be cut, why are we still looking at LB's? We have Pierce and Mitchell for depth, so why bring in Short?

Raleighredskinfan info for you....

Pierce is not our for sure. You see he is a RFA and can leave if another team gives him a offer and the Redskins don't match it!

Exactly why we are looking at Short and Favors. IF we can sign them and Pierce is offered good money elsewhere, Skins will likely not match the sheet (why would you for a backup LB?).

would the signing of pierce by another team give us a draft pick? if so I'm guessing it'd be in the 5-7 range but hey that's better than nothing if we can get one of the players discussed to sign for what we'd sign Pierce too plus get a pick for Pierce signing with another team.

Yeah, we'd get a pick.
