TV shows that fare better as reruns
The Family Guy thread, and an included criticism of the Simpsons, got me thinking. For me, Family Guy is must-view, and the Simpsons is not. However, the Simpsons repeats kill me - even ones from this season. Can anyone explain this phenomenon?

I don't know what it is about the Simpsons. Deep down being that I'm sure it's a majority male audience, there's something about the low brow comedy that is Family Guy.

I just started watching family guy this season and I love it. I was never a huge Simpsons fan, but I'm becoming a family guy fan real fast. American Dad wasn't too bad either.
If you guys get bored at night, you can catch reruns of Family Guy on Cartoon network. |

On the surface Simpsons can be funny to anybody but if you keep up with what's going on in the world and you know your history (no matter how trivial) then the show is even funnier. It will be interesting to see how long Family Guy can stay as funny as it is now. It's showing no signs of slowing down

Re: TV shows that fare better as reruns
That's the appeal about the Simpsons, is that there are so many subtle things that it takes several viewings before you notice things. I continually watch the Simpsons in syndication, even though i've seen some episodes several times.
Family Guy is the first (and only so far) TV show box set I've purchased, and will get season 3 (last before hiatus) and beyond eventually on DVD. The full-length movie will be coming soon (Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story!). American Dad is getting better. But, quite honestly, I don't see it lasting. I find myself avoiding primetime TV for syndicated reruns. Sitcoms of the late 80s and 90s I think are far better than the crap that's out there today (exception is Sunday Night on Fox, Arrested Development and Malcolm in the Middle, but even Malcolm isn't as good as it once was). However, I did start watching Everybody Loves Raymond in syndication, and it's freakin hilarious.

And honestly, I didn't find it THAT funny until about the third season when it started hitting it's stride...
