Also, an interesting tidbit from an interview from Blackmon after the game.

"Joe B did GJ of letting us be aggressive at the end We have so many athletes, just let us play" -Blackmon

Interesting comment like I said.
That being said, athletes should be able to stop a 3rd and 14 in a zone defense. Thru 3 games that's not the case. Teams convert them with such ease. Barry literally has to blitz. A lot of that is our lack of pass rush though too. Kerrigan and Smith really need to pick it up.

The 3rd and longs being converted with such ease is parhetic. We are going to have to be able to turn offenses over a few times a week, otherwise we have no ability to stop anyone.

Barry obviously doesn't like blitzing and loves playing soft coverage. He's either stupid or hard headed. I have no idea why he's an NFL DC. Loved it when Baker gave him an ear full.

Hopefully its hard headed. You can fix that. You can't fix stupid. But by now it should be pretty obviously that a soft zone defense in 3rd downs doesn't work with our current players.

Re: Skins at Giants Postgame Thread!!!

I looked for an article where Barry said he doesnt have the personnel to blitz but didnt find it. I did find this article from December last year talking about Barry's tendency to rush 4 and drop back in coverage. Baker wasnt happy with the up front scheme last year either.

“We’ve got to figure out something different scheme-wise to create more pressures,” Baker said. “That’s what’s happening in the games, but we did a good job defensively. They didn’t have any big plays. We’ve just got to keep them out of the end zone on sudden-change opportunities.”
“As a defensive lineman, when you blitz a lot, that means you have to move up out of your gap, and hopefully someone else comes free,” Baker said. “I’d rather just play man-on-man, let us get our man in front of us and play ball. We don’t have to blitz to get pressure.”
https://www.washingtonpost.com/sport...43c_story.html
-------------------------------

Joe Barry just doesnt blitz. Not his style. Does it seem like it is becoming a trend to not blitz so much? Our last 3 opponents didnt blitz and played soft and I thought that was product of playing us vs the steelers/boys/giants overall approach. But now ... im starting to think it is a trend league wide to not blitz as much. The league wide numbers at the end of the season should tell the story.

Great win!!

Very proud of the team today. Was far from perfect but we played tough and aggressive.

I'll even give props to Joe Barry. Defense stepped up big when we needed them.

Don't fall asleep next week... keep it rolling!!

Bakers points seem contradictory. He says they need to create new schemes but then he also turns around and says lets just play ball. That is what they are doing and its not working. We aren't getting enough pressure "playing ball". I'm not saying do the Haslett Cover 0 blitZ everyone every 3rd down but we do need to mix in some blitzes throughout the games. I also like the idea of mixing in more man coverage schemes with our zones that we run most of the time.

i think he means sometimes play single man coverage and blitz everyone else.

I'm still perplexed at how there were a few proven defensive coordinators out there and we picked him.

Re: Skins at Giants Postgame Thread!!!

It seems Barry's criticism might be within the organization as well. When asked about defensive adjustments Gruden responded sarcastically with, "We made adjustments there? Oh, good."

In all honesty I still like Coach Gruden. He's a no nonsense guy who seems to be a smart offensive mind. He still needs work with his Clock-Management and overall Head Coaching duties but I believe he's a "Football Coach" as McC would say.

Barry on the other hand has an expiration at this point. His team seems to have talent, as evidenced by the turn overs and individual plays being made, however they're out of place and seem lost on occasion. Which falls back to the coaching.

I could see Gruden being retained while Barry is shown the door this off-season, unless things change on that side of the ball.

Re: Skins at Giants Postgame Thread!!!

Gruden's sarcastic response was more about the entire staff being criticized lately for not making adjustments. McVay and Barry being the main targets.

Re: Skins at Giants Postgame Thread!!!

After the 1st 2 weeks embarrassing performances I decided I wasnt going to spend my Sunday getting so frustrated and pissed by watching the game live, decided if they won I would watch it,let me tell you it was a stress free day.

Being able to watch the game having known we won was awesome because all the screwups I was seeing did not cause my head to explode like it normally would

Glad Cousins had a good game,{good, not great}To me it seemed like he was locking on one receiver right from the snap and that was who he was throwing it to no matter what, maybe that's what coach told him to do,IDK.

Kirk is going to have to carry this team, this defense is so bad that we are going to have to score points to win,and this FG shit is not going to cut the mustard.
Congrats to Kirk for finally beating a winning team

As far as coaching goes,I can't believe everyones letting Gruden{and Cousins} off the hook for that bullshit of trying to go for it with 6 seconds left in the half,no f-ing way was that going to work and we are very lucky losing that 3 points didnt cost us the game.If you have Tom Brady you can try it,if youre the Skins and you have Cousins{who might take a knee},that's a super super easy decision, you kick the fucking fg Gruden! I'm ready for the whole staff to go.Another fricking fade route they call that's not even close,I wonder out of the 22td's in the red zone Cousins threw last yr how many we're fades?

And now on to front office, why did we draft Doctson? We needed so much help everywhere else,we did not need a receiver.I got over being upset when he was picked because as Gruden said"He expects Doctson to be a Day 1 contributor.

“You check all the boxes with him as far as ‘person,’ off the field,” Gruden said. “He’s a great person. He has got great work ethic, too. We did our due diligence on that. So you’re bringing in a receiver with the great skillset that he has and a guy that is willing to get better, learn and work. That’s really appealing. I anticipate him challenging for a lot of balls in this offense.”

But instead he's never on the field. The Texans traded with us to move up one and take Fuller{who also missed time in preseason because of injury}and he's kicking ass but our guy never see's the damn field,I dont get it

At least we won,no thanks to the coaches and the refs, how that wasnt an interception I dont know, would love to hear the leagues explanation for that one.Great game for Hopkins,he's our MVP right now.
Will not watch game Sunday either, for one I dont have Sunday ticket and two my daughter's taking me to the Texans game
