Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Makes me laugh when people are so quick to judge on a small sample size. It's clear from his physical talents he's capable of being a good #2 but he won't be a long term starter anywhere. However, to judge whether he's worth keeping around long term as a fixture @ #2 lets give him more than a little over 1/2 a season to show what he can do shall we?

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
The question of him being a good backup was answered long ago for me. He's clearly earned a spot in this league as a backup at the very least. I think the question now is can he be a lower level starter? With the way he's played lately against some very good defenses he seems well on his way to answering that question too.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
I think he is good enough that we can stop bringing in aging Vet QBs to be the answer ..I’m all in for drafting a QB but please enough of the endless carousel of What we have done in past .

No need to dick around with retreads like Mariota or Trubisky.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
How would you address that need in 2022? The draft is weak and using a 1st round pick would be a risk and bad risk at that. Rodgers? I can see that but that would be an all in move to win now. The downside of that trade would be expense and if it failed would wreck the team yet again for a few years - but unlike the draft would be a fairly good risk.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Are you all in for reaching for a QB in the 1st (because any QB taken in the 1st will be a reach)? Lets put it this way if Haskins, or Lock were coming out in 2022 They'd be ranked higher than any of the 2022 QB prospects.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Given the limited options for QBs next year and assuming that Wilson & Rodgers do not want to play for WFT, I think there will be a good chance we continue to add pieces to the team and roll with Heinicke. In 2023, we should have a solid team, which will afford us the opportunity to trade up for a QB if there is one we like in the 2023 draft.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
I don't think anybody is saying he's the franchise QB. But he can buy us some time and give us flexibility going forward, that's all.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
I should say nobody is calling him the franchise QB right at this moment. If he keeps playing like he has been who knows where this conversation may be in a few more weeks lol.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
I'd agree roll with him into next season and don't look for another vet. Certainly don't trade for one even if AR is available. I'd go BPA in the draft and see if one of the top 2022 QB's is available when we draft in Rd 2 or 3. Or maybe trade down from our rd1 spot to accumulate capital for the likelihood of trading up for a QB in 2023. The other luxury of having Heinicke as the incumbent #1 is we can draft a lower round QB project and if that fails we don't lose much. Definitely don't reach in Rd 1 or 2!

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke
Hopefully we avoid another Kirk situation.
I'd jump of the Coronado bridge if they have to franchise this guy because they went into 2022 season with a wait and see attitude. If he is the guy, you extend his contract at the end of the season. If he is just another Colt McCoy type backup(Colt had a big win yesterday against SEA), you extend him for modest money and draft QBs till you get it right. Heinicke is an awesome player at $1m per year and I would love to have him as a backup. |
