Re: Jags Postgame

I don’t want to hear about it was only the Jags.

All off-season we heard how much better they would be, and plenty of the so called experts said they would win this game.

Time will tell if it was a quality win or not, but for now it sure beats losing.

Re: Jags Postgame

Repost with new gifs, hopefully working this time:

Gems from the All 22. You guys don't me to see Curtis Samuel having a monster game, Holcomb missing a tackle on the TD, or Darrick Forrest making plays all over the place.

But here are some plays were interesting and material for discussion/occasions to improve our collective football knowledge.

Found Schweitzer's injury play, hope it's not too serious

Leading to Trai Turner taking the field and making this nice play against a stunt on his first snap

Turner really had a solid game, just a play on a screen that I liked, I love that he's enthusiastic to hit the DB, more than he needed to. He's still banged up and out there diving to hit DBs... He'll be fun to watch once 100% healthy.

For whatever reason (injury concern I guess) Turner was out for a series, allowing Saahdiq Charles to show once again he's not even a decent NFL back up

Now let's rant a bit about or secondary:

McCain flat out sucks, this catch is on him (and you probably remember the awful angle he took on a run early in the game, the announcer mentioned it), Fuller gets beaten but he's supposed to have safety help inside

WJ3 had a bad game, and he dodge a bullet here, had Lance seen him tangling his feet and falling, that may have gone all the way

On top of letting guys run wide open in the passing game, the secondary doesn't play their responsibilities in the run game well. Don't know if it's Fuller, St Juste or McCain, but somebody isn't in his gap. Unacceptable, secondary run gap responsibility usually is super simple. And Nickel being our new base defense, they gotta play it right.

And to finish on a nicer note, I just enjoy watching this play. I think it's very well designed. Don't know if it's a common concept or not (I'm sure somebody here will know the concept's name), but I think it's very hard to defend unless you're in quarter. Here the Jags bring 5, in Cover 3, it's hard to blame the LB initially on Logan Thomas for letting him pass into the deep and biting on Samuel's crossing route, McKissick as a check down has the flat to curl LB's attention, and Dotson takes the deep CB with him. Nice job Scott Turner, ain't it ?

Re: Jags Postgame

From watching more, I still like Wentz ability ro avoid the hit... that's key going forward as this o line to me is just OK... we DEFINITELY need time to let our WRs get open open on the deep routes or it's the Chuck and pray method... which with our crew.. is decent... we need to balance the run a little bit more and play better defense. Defense will make or break this team this year.

Re: Jags Postgame

Dax Milne did good as a returner. Curtis Samuel had his first not-garbage week here (still overall negative on the contract, but as a WR3, he is certainly better than an average CB3 and had some moves). Forrest was a good cheap pickup (D overall was a bit meh). Wentz's ball placement was off compared to the pre-season, but he was still good overall, and the offense stayed calm at the end and got it done.

I do think the Jags looked like a pretty decent team.

I'm happy we have a team that looks like it can actually score some points.

Edit: I also really liked that 4WR bunch play design. It's got to be hard to try and defend while also trying to avoid your own people.

Re: Jags Postgame

Curtis Samuel's talent was pretty obvious I thought, especially in the 1st half. He has great lateral movement and is super quick. Him, McLaurin, Dotson, and Gibson will be tough to stop. If Robinson can come back and be the bruiser back we need, this offense could really do something.

Darrick Forrest was PPF's #1 ranked safety in Week 1. His overall score was 91.5 and his coverage score was 91.0.

Bobby McCain was ranked #53 by PFF with an overall score of 55.0, a coverage score of 58.6 and a run defense score of 43.6.

Forrest is a gamer. You can tell he's physical and aggressive. Like what I've seen so far. Expected more from McCain since we signed him.

Re: Jags Postgame

Forrest needs to stay in the lineup when Curl comes back. He looks like a real find.

Yeah Curtis got some legit moves. If he can stay healthy we got one of the most explosive WR squad in the league IMO.

Re: Jags Postgame

McCain was more than fine last year, which is why he was one of the few players they mentioned by name as a priority to bring back.

It was one game, without their best safety - K Curl. I wouldn't be too judgmental just yet.

We really do. The tds Sunday indicated this for sure. Love Dotson's hands also. Think this kid is going to be a gamer. Wentz's arm strength and affinity for making big plays with these receivers' talents is going to make this a fun offense. Gibson at receiver was nice also. Love how they used Samuel for a few carries also. He was very good at that role also at Ohio St and Carolina.

Having Forrest, Curl, and McCain on the field at the same time is a must. I think Curl should be able to handle the middle of the field and help overcome the deficiencies at LB.

Re: Jags Postgame

The Wentz effect is real for this offense and the players all love him.. All of them had his back after the game.

If he had a game like Dak did Sunday, the media would be calling for TH to start against DET.

Re: Jags Postgame

Commanders in Week 1 were No. 2 in the NFL in ESPN’s Pass-Rush Win Rate at 58 percent. Not too shabby considering no Chase Young and that they didn’t blitz a ton.
