To address the question this thread asks... what does this mean for Hall??

He now has someone to hang out with and eat hotdogs with in camp??

Honestly, it puts less pressure. Danny Smith kept preaching last year to get the kicks high so the coverage team could get there.

Re: Tyler Jones in...so what does it mean for Hall?

Some of these replies are insane. Hall only for kickoffs? WTF? He can't kick the ball tho the god damn 15 yard line on a kickoff. John Hall is a good kicker, and seems to only hurt himself ON KICKOFFS. Not to mention cutting him this year will cost about as much as keeping him because of accelerated signing bonuses. Hall is a good field goal kicker, the best since Lohmiller, and there is no reason to cut him. CUT DEREK FROST, sign this Aussie to handle punts and kickoffs, and we will see a significant improvement in special teams this year. 9-12 in NFL Europe just doesnt impress me enough to warrant cutting a vet who's been with the team for 4(?) years.

I think the Skins should hold a public tryout for the job. What's to lose? Of course, we'd want people who have actually BEEN a placekicker (or soccer player) but we do need someone to replace Hall.

He can come to the tryouts too, if he can fairly win the job, good for him...but he hasn't been getting the job done.

I was upset when we didn't go after Vinatieri ( Don't know how to spell his name ), I felt that one of the positions we NEEDED to upgrade/solidify was kicker. I thought the Skins failed in that area but I just chalked that up to the loyalty of Joe Gibbs.

Re: Tyler Jones in...so what does it mean for Hall?

We do not need to replace Hall with any unproven player in the NFL. Hall joined the Skins in 2003 and had 11 touch backs that year. So when he is healthy he can kick off. Heres his stats for the past 3 years and I know that the total numbers are low because of injuries but just take a look at them.

29 of 31 within 40 yards the two missed where between 30 to 40

12 of 18 from 40 to 50

4 of 9 over 50 yards

The guy is almost 100% within fourty yards and that is big for a team to have and he is 70% from 40 to 50. Alot of teams would love to have a kicker that clutch. I will admit his injuries worry me but from what I've heard they think that they have found his problem.

As cool as it would have been to get Vinatieri, it would not have made sense financially, not to mention he's coming off a sub-par season (trust me he was on my fantasy team and sucked). I don't get why we didnt snatch up Connor Hughes from UVA the second the draft was over. He's automatic from inside 55. Then get the Aussie to punt and do kickoffs, and all is well. The only reason Hughes didn't get drafted was because he didn't kick off.

first, vinetari is ALWAYS bad in fantasy. you should never judge a players true worth by how well he does for your fantasy team. the guy won 2 superbowls and has a great FG %, especially for being an outdoor and cold weather kicker (two things which kill completion %).

The only reason hughes didn't get drafted is because he's not a very good kicker. connor hughes is most definately NOT automatic from inside 55, or he would have been a top 10 pick. only one good kicker came out this year, and he went in the 4th round (which was probably too high). the aussie had a 40-42ypp average in college... that drops in the pros and he has no experience in the NFL either. He's a question mark at best.

2004:

Made 42-of-45 extra point attempts and 17-of-24 field goals (70.8%) as he struggled past the 40-yard line, making only 3-of-8 field goals from 40 yards or longer while also having two kicks blocked.

In 2005 he was 5/6 on 40+ yarders, which is terrible that they only tried that many. his accuracy is terrible and he kicks low, meaning blocks and a total inability to do kickoffs. he's also pretty worthless in coverage. People look at his 21/24 2005 season, but fail to see that they refused to even try 40+ yarders because he just couldn't be trusted to make many of them. when they tried in 2004, as stated above, the results were pretty abysmal.
