Re: Rumor: Brunell heading to Seattle

After watching tape tonight I don't know how true this rumor could be... Palmer looked worse than if Jeff George was out there. To have Palmer active this season would be a HUGE risk unless you were willing to sign someone like Aaron Brooks, Chris Simms or Jeff George when/if Campbell gets hurt.

At this point I think the Redskins need him and I don't think he should be traded for less than a 3rd rounder. He's an immediate backup! He took a pay cut why we wanna trade him? Perhaps it's Seattle looking for insurance. I'm not opposed to moving him, but it must be worth it. Extra DL or OL.

Why not get rid of brunell now and build for the future...not to mention our usual tactic with draft picks is to blow thru them for mediocre trades. If we accrue a few more picks here and there we may be able to put them to good use later or at least not hurt ourselves when we burn thru them in pursuit of a ridiculously overrated FA.

If its any less than a 5th (or maybe a 6th) i think its not worth it b/c we aren't getting enough back and we are unnecessarily helping another NFC team. Imagine if by some ironic twist of fate we had to play Brunell in the playoffs. I could completely envision us getting burnt by him b/c of the bad karma.
I'll take that scenario anyday.

Seriously, Brunell is gone after this year anyway, and he's not enough better than Collins at this point to make dealing him a serious downgrade. Take the draft pick (btw, it's not going to be a third rounder you crackheads) and move on.

Re: Rumor: Brunell heading to Seattle

All I can say - I hate the Brunell hate (and I particularly hate the implication that b/c he is a christian he gets special treatment from Gibbs - seems to me more than a little anti-religion bias always gets mixed in with Brunnell).

We overpaid for him initially. That's not his fault. He gave us solid, not spectacular qb'ing most of the time, helped us to the playoffs, and killed Dallas on monday night. STOP WITH THE HATE.

If he goes, I wish him well - I think he got treated like shit b/c so many fans were enamared of Patrick "I never learn" Ramsey. Best for him to move on.

If Brunell gets traded, the cap hit from his horrendous signing bonus gets accelerated. That should eat up ~$4M this year. . . . And anyone who expects that Seattle would give up a first day draft pick for a washed up backup in his mid-30s is smoking dope. The pick would be no higher than a 6th, and would likely be conditional (i.e. based on playing time).

I like the idea of trading Brunell, we all know his play has and continues to fade, and for $ reasons. It would be a good move for the future, even though Palmer looked bad bad bad.

Does anyone else feel bad for Brunell? He always comes across as a genuine, great guy. When he came in after Campbell got knocked outta that game last year, a lotta people boo'ed him. I thought that was really f'd up. I didn't understand it and was pretty embarrassed as a fan.

Good riddance, Brunell can no longer win a game for a team. Part of it probably has to do with Gibbs conservative game plans, or maybe his gameplans were conservative because of Brunell. All I know is I would dread every abysmal week when I knew he was starting.

I thought he got a raw deal here from the fans. He took way too much heat and considering what a classy guy he is yeah it was embarrassing.

I mean, do we want to boost his value by letting him play or something? It still doesn't make much sense. Now if they went straight to Palmer or Collins right after JC's drive then this story would fall much better in place. Not saying you are wrong angry, but I am just confused.
I think he played as long as he did because it was in Jacksonville.

I also don't think there are any firm trade details in place, and I'm not even sure it's really going to happen. Seattle is interested and the Skins are listening, that's probably the extent of it right now.

washingtonpost.com

I apologize for asserting this thread was a hoax. Here's what the wash. post has on it. If it's not going down, I wonder what prompted ch. 9 to report it. Somebody from 1 of the teams leaked it prematurely I guess.

I still don't see it happening, unless they really have something substantial to offer.

I"m also a little tired of people acting as if Brunell has no value to us. He has more value in DC than anywhere else. Collins is not going to win us any games & more than MB, will lose us some games if put under pressure. Yeah, Brunell can no longer carry a team, but he can manage the game & let CP & Moss do their thing. I feel much better w/him as our backup.

A 3rd?? LOL keep dreaming.

I don't see it being any better than a 6th.

Yeah, I think we'd be lucky to get a 5th and I'd actually do a jig in Danny Boy's honor if we managed to get a 4th.
It would be a simple jig, but it would be heartfelt nonetheless.

Looking through that Seahawks site that Hooskins linked to, I'm surprised how excited they seem to be about this. Seneca Wallace must really blow.

Re: Rumor: Brunell heading to Seattle

I don't believe this trade is going to happen unless they were to offer a 3rd round pick or greater, which I doubt anyone would part with for Brunell.

We would essentially be going into the season with two quarterbacks if we trade Brunell and for a team that has playoff expectations I don't believe this is a situation they want to be in.

Didn't they just give Wallace an extension? I thought they had really high hopes for him. I know he started a few games for them when Hasselback went down and played pretty good.

Re: Rumor: Brunell heading to Seattle

I really think any deal would be "saving face" deal.

This is what I mean...if the skins got a 4th or 5th...they could claim they essentially traded Brunell for Kendell....which would be a great deal.
OR
If they got a 6th, they could say they basically got their 6th back from this year who they spent on the backup of the future...essentially trading Brunell for youth potential at QB. Problem with that is....Palmer sucks so bad, he can't be on the active roster to take his place.....that is probably why no deal will go down (my opinion)

Knowing the Skins, I highly doubt they will pick up a free agent to replace Brunell cause they will have no clue on the playbook....The only other option would be to bring back Bramlet and have him #3 and have Palmer on the practice squad. I really think that the Skins would need a 5th though so they can claim they essentially traded him for Kendell....otherwise, it aint worth it... and if what someone said was true about the salary cap hit....that would mean locking up Cooley would be in jeopardy.

At this point, I'd say lock up Cooley, hold on to Brunell and get nothing by releasing him next year when we can afford it. It is not worth risking losing Cooley for a likely 5th-6th round draft pick.

Bramlet's in Atlanta, we lost the chance to have him this year. Hindsight being 20/20, we should have cut Palmer and kept Bramlet as a 3rd qb, as it would have given us the flexibility to deal Brunell.
