Well, I don't think the Patriots are cheating tonight, and they look just fine to me. As I said, they didn't even need to cheat. They are easily the best team in the NFL right now.

Although A.J. Smith has done a nice job picking players in the draft and free agency, he's an idiot for pushing for Marty's firing. How the hell does a coach who's team went 14-2 get fired AND then replaced by Norv?

Maybe they didn't want to go 14-2 again?

Re: Around the NFL (Week 2)

This game (Chargers vs. Pats) got out of control the moment Norv started trying to play catch-up and stopped giving the ball to L.T.

And are the Patriots turning into a passing team or what?

Pats do what ever it takes to win. They can throw it on you, or play smash mouth like they did in the 2nd half. Love their offense and the way they game plan.

The owner had to make a choice and he made the wrong one. Plus, how do you get rid of Drew Brees?

You get rid of him when you have a good replacement...in case you missed it, Brees is kinda sucking this year.

That was because Marty and Brees didn't get along. And that makes even less sense. Keep a coach who admittedly doesn't get along with the general manager, only to get rid of what might have become a franchise quarterback because he doesn't get along with the head coach, who was destined to be fired anyway.

For some reason, I don't have a lot of faith in Philip Rivers. I think Brees will wind up to be the better quarterback.

In case YOU missed it, this "year" is only two games old. Brees lit it up last season. Don't worry, the Saints will get back on track. Brees will ultimately prove to be a more complete quarterback than Rivers.

I don't think they're in bad shape with Rivers. Plus that trade got them Kaeding and Merriman as well, right?

Actually, who I really like is the Chargers #3 QB, Charlie Whitehurst. I think he's got a lot of potential. Probably won't get to realize it in San Diego, though

Ummm, Rivers took a team to a 14-2 record last year, and 22 tds and only 9 ints is pretty impressive. So while Brees did have 4 more passing td's last year, he also had 2 more int's. (oh and 4 fewer wins)
I'm not saying Brees sucks, I think he's a good qb...the question was presented about why do you let go of a QB like Brees...well when you have a suitable replacement. End of story.

You can not honestly say that Rivers took a team to a 14-2 record last year. Now if you wanted to say that Rivers was the startig QB on a 14-2 team last year that greatly benifited from LaDainian Tomlison, that would be better. Everyone knows that LT and his 38 TD's and a dominating D is why that Charger team went 14-2 not because of the arm of Rivers...

Because you are not going to pay for 2 High caliber QB's when you can only start 1. They went with youth and cut ties with the older who was comming off of a shoulder surgery.

Obviously it's a TEAM sport, and you only win if your TEAM is good. That being said, Rivers was the head of the team. Are you saying they would have went 14-2 with Brunell at the helm for instance? They were 14-2 because of Rivers...they were 14-2 because of LT...they were 14-2 because of the D.
BTW- Where did you get 38 tds? It was 31 (he also had 2 passing td's but they don't count towards the record) but even if you count those two it's 33.
