The only problem with selecting a wide receiver in the draft is that they normally take 2 or 3 years before they really start to blossom and get into a 'pro groove'. I'd much rather see someone currently on the roster step up -- much like Albert Connell with the '99 season. But disregard his subsequent seasons, of course.
We need O-line help badly, but I don't think the coaches are giving up just yet on Derrick Dockery, and nobody uses #9 picks on centers. It just doesn't happen. Regarding Dockery though, I remember Ed Simmons taking awhile to mature -- he wasn't dominant right away. It took a few years of grooming before he established himself. But the way I see it, this should be the year Dockery 'takes the next step.' After that, if there's still no noticable improvement, he's backup material at best. Another Brad Badger. |
