Re: Prospects for Shanahans offense/Hasletts 3-4 D
From ESPN.com
Washington Redskins We know where Washington stands at quarterback and left tackle. I think Jason Campbell could do a nice job for Mike Shanahan, but so far, the coach isn't really embracing the incumbent starter. But those are the obvious needs. Honestly, there are no under-the-radar needs because the Redskins need help at pretty much every position. Maybe with the presence of Albert Haynesworth and Maake Kemoeatu, folks have been lulled into thinking the Redskins are OK at defensive tackle. But I don't think that's the case. If you can find a nose tackle early in the draft, you have to think about selecting him. Haynesworth's going to line up at defensive end the majority of the time. He wants no part of playing nose tackle, although he'll be there some of the time. The Redskins would also be wise to look for inside linebackers for their new 3-4 scheme. If you think London Fletcher's going to succeed in a 3-4, you haven't studied the league. Little guys like Fletcher simply don't function well in this type of defense. Ask the Cowboys' former mighty mites Dat Nguyen and Dexter Coakley. It just doesn't work for 5-10 guys to be taking on 340-pound guards who are light on their feet. So yes, inside linebacker might qualify as an under-the-radar need. The Redskins still have questions at punter and placekicker as well. They have needs all over the roster, so this could rank as the most important draft in the last 20 years. Nothing's really under-the-radar when it comes to this team's draft needs.

Griff may not have been able to maintain he play however. He's signed nowhere and I believe retirement is just around the corner, so even had we kept Griff (instead of getting Kemo) our dline in '09 > '10. I think unless we take one of the two top DTs at 4 or get really lucky later in the draft our dline takes a step backward this year (I'm hoping for a little luck cuz we NEED LT far more than a DT).

It's really interesting Zoe is moving to LB? I mean there's really nobody to play LDE behind the aging/ageless Daniels and it seems Zoe would be a solid starter there. He's a bit undersized as a 4-3 DT but I think I bit hefty as a 3-4 LB...i just would have thought the coaches would like at him and think LDE!

Re: Prospects for Shanahans offense/Hasletts 3-4 D
Washington Redskins
Needs: LT, QB, S, CB, C/G and NT Analysis: The Redskins got turned upside down in the offseason with a new general manager, Bruce Allen, and a new coach, Mike Shanahan. Both men can be deal makers during the draft, and the Redskins should be thought of as a team ready, willing and able to pull off a few deals. There's a quarterback question in Washington, and Jason Campbell may not be the answer. There's also a large void at left tackle with the retirement of Chris Samuels. Allen has cleared over $30 million from the contract books, but the team is headed to a new 3-4 defense and needs personnel to complete the project. Albert Haynesworth doesn't want to be the nose tackle in the 3-4 scheme spending his days holding the point against double teams. So the Redskins need to go find a true nose tackle in this draft. ^according to NFL.com...

Also it sounds like we're running Pittsburghs 3-4 defense this year.

Re: Prospects for Shanahans offense/Hasletts 3-4 D
Just for the record, and all the experts on here who seem to post what we will do,...
I have no idea where the Redskins are headed with defense or the draft. These 2 guys Allen and Shanahan should be in charge of our military operations. They keep secrets and mislead people extremely well. This is not necessarily fan friendly, but it beats the heck out of telling everybody in the world what your offense is, what your defense is, and not disguising a darn thing in your organization to the point where not only NFL defensive coordinators, but even the fans, know exactly what plays the skins are running on 1st down(run left)...2nd down(run into the right side of the line), and 3rd down, 5 yard pass to Cooley falling short of the 6 yards needed for a 1st down. I love being in the dark! |

Maybe it's time to revisit this since we have so many posts about where people will play (Carter, Jarmon, etc)
