Re: Willie Parker a Skin
I think this is great. First, re-emphasizes competition and continues to send the message that they are looking everywhere. 2nd, it still doesn't preclude taking a RB if there is one Shanahan likes. 3rd, it has to send a specific message to CP, and that is a good thing.

Re: Willie Parker a Skin
Can I just say I am loving the way Bruce Allen/Shanahan are handling this offseason...the biggest signing we have had so far is Willie Parker?!?! And we now have a stable of backs to turn to...and the way he is going, I would be shocked if we don't dedicate at least 2 picks in the draft to the offensive line. Shanahan is a smart guy...he won in Denver with Jake Plummer by having a solid offensive line and a plug in backs in no names like Bell etc. It is a pretty similar situation in DC and if we get the kind of production from the offense that Shanahan got out in mile-high, this could be a very good year....
I'm excited, is anyone else excited?? lol

Re: Willie Parker a Skin
They may not be considered stars any longer, but they still share in that star mentality because they all have at one time been the featured back for their respective teams. Usually there are role players in the mix, but in the case of these three, all will be looking to be the man.

Re: Willie Parker a Skin
Ive been complaining about our back field for so long, man I love these pick ups. LJ annnd Willie Parker. Both coming to new team with chips on their sholders, with something to prove, in a open competition type atmosphere. I hope we somehow get rid of CP, keep Aldridge or draft (or sign undrafted) speed back, and we are set.
Joe Gibbs wouldve went crazy, these are the type of backs that he was trying to convert CP to. |

Re: Willie Parker a Skin
I'm going against the grain on this one. I don't like the signing. I think LJ has a chance to maybe revitalize his career, but I don't think the same about Parker. Honestly, I don't think he was ever that good. I could be wrong and he blows up, but I doubt it. If this move keeps us from getting a young guy, I think it's a mistake. I could easily conjure up a vision where all three of these older semi-injury prone backs are hurt at the same time. I want a young RB in here taking a few reps from time to time.
Like others, I think one of these players gets cut (or maybe we move Portis for a 5th round pick or something similar) to make room for a younger guy.

Re: Willie Parker a Skin
I think LJ's advantage is his size. He can be an old power back. I'm not sure Parker can regain his speed after a certain point, and that's all he's got really.
