There's a difference, I think, between building a young core and having the 4th overall draft choice. Trent Williams is, presumably, a franchise cornerstone on the offensive line.

But he too is here as much for "what can he do for us now?" as "who will our building blocks of the future be". That's to say: his youth is a side effect of the fact that he was the best left tackle available to us (per Shanahan, not per GTripp) at any point during the offseason.
