That way, we would have had a real strong safety in the defensive backfield like we did when Clark and Sean Taylor were the sheriff and the deputy.
The blame should be on Gregg Williams, he was the one who believed that he could find someone better than Clark, which was when he signed Archuleta (sp?). Although I think it is worth noting the fact that Landry seemed to play well with Taylor on his side, until Taylor passed away and then Landry obviously felt the pressure to play as well as Taylor did.

Apparently I missed this earlier. Welcome to the boards!

Maybe it will, but sometimes surgery is the best option and he decided to go with what he went through with last off season and it did him or the injury no good.

If Vinny Cerrato was smart, he'd have never let Ryan Clark leave in the first place. I also tend to agree with others that ST's death put more pressure on Landry to be who he never was.

Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?

» One position that could be plenty deep in free agency, but not so much in the draft, is safety. If you need one, March -- not April -- is the time to snag him. Few of the college safeties project to make a quick impact, but several teams face difficult decisions at the position. The Raiders want to keep Tyvon Branch and are making an effort to re-sign him. But Oakland is having a hard time getting under the cap and is trying to figure out if safety Michael Huff, with a $4 million roster bonus due, will be back as well. The 49ers could franchise Dashon Goldson (if they don't, he'd be in demand), and if LaRon Landry is not franchised by Washington, sources said it's highly unlikely he would re-sign with the team. Michael Griffin has been up-and-down with the Titans, but he has potential. And with so many defenders to address, can Atlanta keep Thomas DeCoud?

SI.com - Writers - Peter King: My all-future NFL team - Wednesday August 15, 2007 12:58PM

By the way I still remember how high Peter King was on Laron coming out and remember this article. Look at this. He missed on a LOT of guys.

Given how difficult it is to predict things in the NFL, I say he did a pretty good job.

With F.D. getting the franchise tag, Landry can leave. So long after five seasons of nothing.

Sounds like he's on his way to Jacksonville (brother is there) unless the Redskins offer more, which doesn't seem likely.

no he's not.

The Jags have FS Dwight Lowery who they love and can cover and they have Dawan Landry at SS who is solid. Laron won't go to a place where he could take away his brothers job.

There's no way Laron could beat his bro out anyway. The thing is he won't land anywhere in "strategic" fashion, it'll simply be whoever takes a chance on him. I suggested weeks ago Landry shouldn't be re-signed for more than vet min.

...if I'm wrong it won't be by much.

LaRon could end up in New England, Kansas City, Miami, Minnesota, Cincy, Baltimore is a dark horse.

I think the chances of him coming back are quite small. I mean he's not a priority at all. He'll likely get some lowball offer from us
