NFL Stats: by Team Category

Take a look there sonny. Just six teams have allowed more hits on their QB, and believe four of those QBs are done for the season or been out for multiple games. One thing striking is those teams have serious injury along the oline, whereas we've been remarkably healthy among that group.

Anyway, yep you're right six teams give up more hits and it certainly seems to take it's toll.

I'm more than a little irritated at the stupidity among fans saying the hits don't matter. It's one thing for the 23 yr old goofball on here because he's just a kiddo, but anyone in their 30s, 40s, 50s and upward have seen far too many fantastic QBs sent to early retirement for the beating they took behind a crap oline and/or poor scheme.

Let's not play the fool here...if we want RG3 as a franchise QB the pass protection must improve dramatically.

Not a very good argument since we are discussing a mobile QB, and one that holds the ball on a lot of occasions to long to prevent a turnover or throwing a INT

This will be my only post about this, but basically we're within (most) of the rest of the league, give or take 10 hits. If 10 hits is what determines the longevity of a QB, then strong post to you sir.

I refuse to believe that his "style of play" is what's going to suddenly have him crumbling into a puddle of injury-prone mediocrity. This is also assuming the other guys in the league AREN'T running QBs. If you look at those stats, Luck is going to be out of the league in a year! TOO MANY HITS!!!!!!!! OMGZZ!1!11!

You completely ignore the fact that Griffin isnt built as stoutly as a guy like Luck or most of the other mobile starting QBs in the league. He's very lanky and built more like a wide receiver than a quarterback. He doesnt have the build to take as many hits over as long of a period of time.

Earlier in the season, Griffin commented that he's incredibly sore after most games, but he's tough and takes good care of his body so he can recover. His body wont continue to recover so quickly indefinitely. Anyone who thinks Griffin can continue to play exactly like he's playing now and continue taking the kind of hits he's taking for the next 5-10 years is foolish. Hopefully, we'll have a better pass-blocking offensive line and RGIII will become more adept at avoiding the big hits in subsequent seasons.

That's the thing, I don't really see RG3's style as the problem i.e. most of the big hits are coming when he drops back into the pocket. Like Matty and others have said he can help himself by getting rid of the ball quicker, but then I think we probably see fewer completions and more turnovers. I think it really comes down to protection, that's what I'm saying.

Take Big Ben for example. He's had lousy protection through most of his career and everyone pointed to his toughness (and it doesn't hurt that he's a huge dude), but now the injuries are lasting longer and he's not playing at the same level. Does this make sense?

The think the concern for RG3, which is pretty much unanimous outside this board btw, is legit.

Every QB gets hit.. RG3 holds the ball and looks to run when the play breaks down or doesn't go his way. It's been going on all year. It's going to happen next year, and many more after that..

Talking about what "might happen" is like talking about the end of the world on Jan. 1st.
